I went to harbor freight and picked up a set of offset box end wrenches. Had to cut 6" off the 19mm for it to fit in the frame.
Couldn't budge the bolt with the wrench so I took a hammer to the shock itself to break it loose.

Made alot of progress.
Sure wish I could post pics.  :-\

back plug , get to it.  I had a 67 cougar 390 that the back plug was nuts to get too.

Either use a few universal wiggly joints , tried that,  or as we ended up doing , using a hole saw to get a socket thru the fender well and onto the offending plug.

Absolutely everything on that car was tough to get to.

Try working on a Bobcat. The only thing accessible is the fuel filler cap. I'm selling mine to keep me from torching it.
Rat at least you didn't have to ruin and real tools.
Mike, my mom sold the '60 Sunliner and bought a Cougar. I quit doing her tuneups.

the 289 was easy to do, the 390--427--428 big block was as tight as hell.

Wonder what the guys who were racing these cougar / mustangs did at the track. ???? a 7 plug change.

Looks great! Well worth the 'cyphering.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Nice work!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

How does it ride. Were the old units single action, only dampen in one direction?

Rides much better. Not getting the bouncyness like before. I think the old units were single action, would only work on rebounds not compression.

I may pull one more leaf from the pack but I want to see what improvements radials do.
That's the next mod.
Bye, bye whitewalls.

I have another broken spring on my '53 pickup. I have broken several of my "slimmer" sets, but it is a pickup and so used and it travels a rough road.

Maybe try lowering the psi in your tires to help take the shock out of the bumps. If your running 35, go to 30. It helps on the gravel roads.

Just to give you an idea;;;; off-road I run down to 18 , maybe more depending on how hardcore the trail or length.
But im sure you truck bed is full of gear so airing down may not be an option.

My neighbor works for AAA spring if ya need any spring work done LMK .
