Good job Rattiac, you have to feel like a little weight has been lifted off.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Oh yeah. I feel much better. Now I can move onto other projects.

At a carshow yesterday there was this 1930 Oakland with modern shocks set up on a 55 truck axle.
Now I have a better idea of what I need to do.
I'll leave these pics for future reference.
Notice how many leafs up front.

New shocks and towers are on order.
I'll be tearing the original front "ride control" shocks off hopefully this weekend.

I can keep the rears cause they actually work and it's getting a set of skyjackers to help level things when towing.

It's official. It's going modern.

New parts are in with a quick hand mockup.
I'll flip the shock over to get a better idea on travel.

Im thinking hide the tower behind the shock cause it looks better and get a wider part of the frame to weld to.

Unbolted the original shocks from the axle and found there is no resistance at all, up or down.  :o
Also the fluid is gone.
Well, they worked for alitte while.

Now I dont feel so bad.
Im on my way to get some lower mounts. Be back soon.

New shocks should improve your ride ;)
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

So this is really STUPID.
When I put the new steering box in, I blocked one of the bolts to remove the original "ride control" shocks. :o
Now I have to figure a way to get a modified wrench on it and turn it a 1/2" at a time.

I hate when that happens. What are you gonna do to modify the wrench?

Rattiac don't feel alone, even some factory built cars have been assembled that way. I have many modified tools that dad and I have made thru the years for such problems. ;)   Dad was a master at making goofy looking tools, I still run across one every now and then that I have no clue what he built them for.

My mom had a '60 Ford convertible that I never figured out how to remove the left rear spark plug.
