Always liked those trailers....

How'd the test drive go? Does the steering feel tight with the front end lacking some weight? Could you get some adjustable air shocks out back?

Test drive did well. The rear only lowered about an inch. Steering seems fine, didnt notice much difference. Backing it up took a bit of practice with the 4" mirrors.

I do have some small airbags but....... I am leaning towards air shocks for the ease of installation. I'll have to weld in a crossmember and shock mounts on the axle. I'll do that this winter when I have the floor out to do the steel conversion.
Just wondering about shock lengths and what will work. Maybe something from a camaro.

Still need to wire it up for trailer lights  , in the next few days.

More fun! Now you don't have to go home at night. :o

Got the trailer harness hooked up on the car end. Lights all worked great and even towed it to a carshow. I thought I would feel the rear suspension bottom out on a few big bumps but..... To my surprise  it soaked em up no problem.

So. Im planning my project for the winter.
I think it's about time I take on this rotten wood and convert it to steel.

In the last  few weeks I've been cleaning up shop, selling what I can and giving away the rest. Also some runs to the dump.
I'll be documenting this here once I get to removing wood.

It takes a little thought and a lot of patience, I now have mine completed and almost drivable after 3-1/2 years, wish I had time to work on it more. Good luck

Rattiac, ^^^same as above^^^.   And if you get a headache in the "Thinking Chair", give a shout out! ;)    Many on here have done that conversion, and I'm guessing many different ways for each individual car.  Good luck, be safe and have fun. :)

Looking forward to watching the project.  I'm sure it'll come out great!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Thanks guys. I'll probably be starting from the rear and working forward on the body frame . The last thing will be the doors (should be more intensive).

I will be looking for your input in certain areas.
Sometimes it helps to get someone else's ideas when you hit a roadblock.

We could also post this in the Tech department to help others.

Right now im making room and cleaned up a bit.
A run to the dump today is on the list.
I collected too much stuff and need to minimalize.

the wood framing is what makes our 1935 and down gm cars special.

Exactly why are you taking the wood out and replacing it with steel.  Your creating a huge job that if not done right can create more problems than you started out with.

A band saw, 3--4" wide sander, assorted wood chisels , jig saw, and lastly a wood plane either power or hand.

remember all steel cars go boing, gm goes thud, nice and solid.

Damn. My brakes are so good, it wont let me do a burnout.
So I just ordered a Summit knob valve thingy to solve that problem.  ;D
