Just a lot of good news here, It is good to hear that people are fixing stuff and modern medicine is helping people live better lives. Good things happen every day and we hear so little about it.

Started on the 67 today.  Installed jack nuts on the rear of the car.  Amazed how many holes been punched in from people just jamming screws wherever.
Fabbed up some new tack strips in the front,  pads all set up.  Tomorrow rear window gets installed and maybe start putting the top on.

FATnLOW, here's to a full speedy recovery!
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Started on the 67 today.  Installed jack nuts on the rear of the car.  Amazed how many holes been punched in from people just jamming screws wherever.

I've seen some pretty cobbled up rear tack bars. Back well looked like swiss cheese from all the screws/ lag screws jabbed in them. Be sure and post pics when done. Love those '67s.

My Silverado a/c quit working late last fall. Couldn't get an early appointment for the dog at the Vet next week to beat the heat. I ran down to my buddy Travis' place to get a couple cans of r134, he came out of the back with his gauges and shoved the first can in....we heard a leak. High pressure shrader valve. He took it off went in back fiddled with it, came back out and reinstalled it.....COLD air again! 😁

Was out back early trimming back a few more branches and noticed a pickup & trailer out back. My nieghbor's nephew came to rescue his '64 chevy short stepside. He got into drag racing back when he was 16 and with his dads help raced all summer. It was bright yellow then. He tore it all down after the season for a restore with intentions of painting it black. I let him borrow my black '57 for maybe Jr/Sr prom (might have been another kid) and let him take it for his Senior pictures session.
I told him now after 18yrs he has a barn find, found it right where he put it 18yrs ago😁 He says his youngest daughter has taken intrest in old cars and trucks. So he promised to have it ready next year for her Prom.

Pics aren't too good....i can't see my screen outside.

I wish there was an interested you person for every old car out there. Better yet if it's someone and their kids.  8)

Worked on the jeep today.  When I put the new pump in the gasket didn't seal properly and only leaked when it was full.
Pulled the pump out and saw the gasket fall into the tank.  Had to pump out some fuel 6gal to get to it .
Found a tear in the gasket so I re-used the factory piece.
It's also spring loaded, had to hold down the pump while trying to screw down the 6" plastic ring nut .
Took a few tries to get it threaded on right.

Went to the gas station and filled up.  So far no leaks.
Tightened down a transmission line that might be the possible leak.  I added a quart of fluid .
Seems like I lost more considering the mess it made under the jeep.
Now I just need to re-torque the rear leafsprings.
Kinda weary of that since I hurt my hand months ago .
I call these "post-trip repairs". 😀

If you are going to be out in those far away places you are wise to fix everything you fond that will insure you get home. A simple breakdown can get serious really quick.

About 30 years ago we spent a week in Death Valley in the spring. On the way back I wanted to visit a friend who lived in Keeler on the back side of Owens Lake. We headed out of Death Valley from Tea Kettle Junction on a "Jeep trail" I took a wrong turn and we didn't make it back to pavement until we were near Lone Pine, totally missed Keeler. We did not see another vehicle. At one point we were seeing jugs of water every mile or so along the road. I asked about them when we were having breakfast the next morning. We were told that a retiring mining equipment salesman and his replacement got stuck out there a few months before and died before they were found. That is not as likely now but if you were broke down and hurt it could happen. I have a little book about the confirmed deaths in Death Valley. It's a tough place like a lot of the south west.

Gotta be prepared.
This is my normal setup I have in the back of the jeep at all times.
Starting from the left.
1.) Red bag:::; Extra straps, bungy cords.
2.) Above that::::; Air compressor (smittybuilt)
3.) 3rd bag::::; Recovery gear, winch control, tree strap, two 25ft straps, two 3/4" military clevis hooks,  A pair of wheel skids from chevy trucks.
4.) 4th bag:;:; tools,  every universal wrench or pliers, sockets, wrenches, trailer bearings,  electrical connectors,  etc
5.) Milk crate::::; 1gal water, 1gal antifreeze,  2quarts of gear oil,  1quart oil & atf,  small shovel,  ax, jumper cables.
Star wrench.
Fire extinguishers.
Also keep 6 water bottles under the rear seat.
It may add 100lbs but it's alot of necessary things when out in BFE.
I sewed up a spare tire cover that has pockets for things like tire plugs, emergency blankets,  hitch pins,  nuts/bolts,  hose clamps,  hose.
Doesn't hurt to have AAA for the last 10 years for if a tow is required.

I haven't been doing much off road, except the 2 miles home and deer season. I have let my guard down and am putting stuff together for my Silverado. Still trying to find a front hitch for it. I think I'll modify one I have laying around. There isn't much storage space in it and with the short bed I don't want a box in the bed. I'd barely have room for beer. I got an under seat box. I like your tire cover idea.I'm thinking of pockets on the seat backs. I had one of those visor shelves in my '89 but it blocked too much of the windshield. I think of all the wasted space in the bed sides.

You guys sure sound like you got your bases covered. The closest thing I get to off roading is when I park on the grass instead of my driveway. ;D
