A base and then a screw on center. 67-68 Ralleys had a short center cap, 69 up had a tall ribbed center cap. 67-68 did look similar to posted caps.
I've seen them before, just can't remember on what. Check on early/mid 60s. Look like maybe Chevy 2, Chevelle/300 lower model caps. 4

I found this on Marketplace and they appear to be for rallys, but have never seen them before. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Being a 4-door it has a belt-line around the bottom and goes up by the rear fenders around a corner. Gonna take a pro to pull that off.

mind. It would be cool to have home made custom ones, though. 7

I have been doing all my own work for so long If you ever thought about it there are some very good urethanes and epoxies that cast very well in plaster molds for making your own lenses. If you can find one that fits and you like it, make some up of your own.
In my casting business, I have been asked to reproduce a lot of items and not all of them automotive. 8

sealing some obviously dysfynctional lamp seals do. Last saturday I was at a small swap meet and scored a couple small crhomed lamps, thinking they might look good as front turn signals on my Buick. No lenses in them, though, so I'll have to be creative... They were cheap. Cheap is my middle name. 9

I had made templates from wood and wood screws, to have something to check the shape of the sheet against while I was rolling it. Back at home I measured the new sheet centered and level and fastened it with four sheet metal screws in lieu of clecos. Then a lot of shrinking in the deep throat schrinker-stretcher. When the shape looked okay, I made a 3/4" flange using a tipping die in the bead roller, then shrinked the flange to get back to the right shape. Having watched a lot of Fitzees Fabrications videos on youtube, I had long thought about trying his cut-n-butt method. I did now, and it worked a charm. I cut some, then made a tack, cut some more, made a tack and so on. The body was extended downwards as far as I had made the new wheel arches three years ago. Turned out it was two inches, not three as I mentioned earlier. 10

If you ever bought a new lens for one, you probably noticed that there was a gasket, hollow riveted to the back side of it. Ever ponder about how well that gasket sealed the housing from the car wash or a good rain?? Guess what....it doesn't seal anything. I am just finishing up the tooling to cast them in a hard black plastic. The only thing the gasket does is cushion the glass against the 2 small tabs that the 2 screws go into to hold the lens on!!!!!
I have been a Chevy owner and mechanic for over almost 65 years. My initials are GMC. I owned a lot of Chevys from 1956 to today, my current ride is a 2006 Chevy HHR. I don't buy a Chevy until it has at least 150,000 miles on it. I then drive them to around 3 to 400,000 miles. The HHR had 229,265 miles on it. Fun car and not too bad to work on. I will bring news of the housings when they are ready to go. |
