Whew! Almost midnight. I spent the whole day in the garage
and got the right hand side rear fender almost entirely done.
Also the front fender is good under way, so with any luck I'll
have two fenders done by the end of the weekend.
Note to self: No fenders on my next build!

Dang Essex, your on a roll. Looks good!
Note to self 😁 When i was starting my coupe, the four 34-35s i had bits and pieces from, none had fenders or running boards so it wasn't an option for me. With a coupe... they look fine with out them. Sedans i really prefer fenders. You can spend as much or more time ironing out the dents etc on them than the whole rest of the car.
Keep a roll'n on, just don't get over worked and burnt out. Your getting close👍

Your work is too good. Everyone will think it all came that way.

Thank you all for the positice comments!
It feels endless. I've been at it litterally every day. Today I was applying filler and sanding,
filler and sanding, filler and sanding and I distinctly felt that nothing improved.
The right hand side fenders are both done, but the driver's side ones simply won't comply.
The front fender is in bad shape, so I guess I should have expected it.
With some luck I'll be done with the mud work on the fenders this coming weekend, after
that I'll spray epoxy and 3M rocker guard on the insides of the fenders, I have six cans
standing by. I use epoxy as a sanding sealer too, it's a bit hard to sand, but it's already
in my garage, I buy industrial epoxy in 2-1/2 gallon batches, that includes both epoxy
and hardener.
sixball
, that's how it works. The more work you put in, the less it shows.

Finally done, more or less. I removed the rear fenders and
After some additional filling and sandig I sanded them on the
inside, same with the aprons and running board moldings.
Tomorrow I'll paint them om the inside with epoxy.
Nice when a seemingly endless task is coming to an end and
the garage can be cleaned a bit and the floor swept.

Thank you
TFoch
and
sammons
and
sixball
for your never ending support.
All you others too.
It's more fun now than in a long time, to work on the fenders.
I sprayed almost one and a half gallon of 3M rocker protection, it makes for
a substantial rubbery coating to protect from rocks hitting and the typical sand
blasting that fender insides are exposed to.
Three fenders are sanded smooth ready for paint, smooth as a baby's butt .
It's satisfying to see my handiwork in one solid color smooth shape. It won't
probably look perfect at all when it's coated in gloss black, but it is what it is.
I did a mistake, I should have painted the insides of hte fenders before sanding
as my friend whoi owns the paint shop pointed out. Amateurs are bound to
make mistakes.

Essex your looking good. Glad you made it through the tuff parts, thats where so many bail from frustration or burn out. It's a great feeling when you push thru and all of a sudden the shapes right/smooth and that last sand/prime all those little imperfections and sand scratches disapeared. You step back and see that velvet smooth primer. You get an instant recharge😁
Yes, kind of a must to coat the inside of those fenders. Rubberized is my go to under there also. Nothing worse than a couple years down the road you have up bumps from road debrie. In the old Lacquer paint days, it would leave little star cracks in the paint where rocks hit from under.
Actually i've seen black paint hide more imperfections than light colors like white. White tends to shadow them around any sand scratches etc that are missed.

Yes,
sammons
, It's been a chore, with a few high lights when results have
shown up after long hours of fighting sheet metal, shapes and experimenting with
ways to get things to fit and look half decent.
I covered the outsides of the fenders and aprons with the thin plasic sheet paintshops
use to cover a car that has to get for example one door painted. Then painted the
rubber coating with industrial 2K paint, same kind that I've used on the frame and also
the door jambs and dash, come that time.
I removed the coverings this morning, aired out the garage to be able to breathe there.
Then took a few hours to go get some supplies and to have coffee with a rod builder,
taking a look at his project in the process.
I spent maybe 5 hours sanding and prepping the fenders, and they'll go to the paint
shop tomorrow even if it's sunday. Finally done!
I'm bracing for he comments I'll get. I've worked there for almost a year before, and
I always get an earful of critical comments, all fun, he's probably the funnest boss I've had.
I had missed a tiny dent on the tailgate on a '68 Chevy wagon I painted there in 2019,
before I bought the Buick, I still get comments about it
