General Discussion - Intros / Re: What Did You do Today - Car Related?

Can't say i ever really drove one, just costmers in and out of the shop. My girlfriend drove an orange one in highschool. I took a bobbed Baha bug in trade for a car i sold. Had a Porche dual carb and 5-speed tans, headers etc. The guy said it needed the valves ran. I didn't know anything about them and didn"t have anything in it, sat for several months. Sold my 73 GT Ranchero and it had a hitch, bug had a tow bar. I told the guy that he had to take the bug with him. 😁

Reminds me of when I was stationed in Germany in the early 70's, bought a 1953 VW bug. The brakes were cable operated :o...no hydraulics.  One day all forward gears went out, only worked in reverse...drove it about 20 miles backwards to get home.  Picked up a 1964 with blown engine and put the engine from the 1953 in it.  Fun cars.

I think i got the bug.
My trade school teacher (he?s maybe 7 years older than me)
sent me a pic of a beetle he bought yesterday. So I
said I?ll but his old one. We settled the price and as soon as
I?ve paid it, I?m the owner of my first beetle.
I?ve owned two seventies VW buses and a 1980 Passat diesel,
but this is the first bug. I need one lika a hole in the pocket?
So what?

Brother has been busy with other stuff and made several orders, been waiting on parts anyway. He got the heat and fuel gauges back from the rebuilder. All calibrated and new lens installed.

Got a new ignition switch and got it imstalled, the old one had the lock pin wore down and you could still start with out a key whem it was on lock.
Had ordered new carpet, but didn't like the salt and pepper red. He had ordered red loop from different year, ('58 has a lot of one year only stuff)  Got scared it wouldn't match the seats, so he canceled. Thought about it more and just ordered the much cheaper black
carpet for now.

The new seat foams came in so he pulled seats again amd stripped them down. Lol, they were way worse than either of us thought.  He said just touching them they would crumble. He's repainting the frames and waiting for new batting and hog rings now.

Ed I had hoped you were getting along a bit better by now. Give it another 2-3 weeks and things should be looking up. Hang in there.
