Ideas for radiator overflow tank?
« on: March 29, 2014, 03:13:45 PM »
Trying to make as many parts as I can and looking for ideas to make a radiator overflow tank.  I like those tall and skinny stainless tanks that are thin and about 15" long, not expensive but not homemade.  Have any ideas?

If I could hide it...could modify an aluminum AC dryer tank...but that's too big for my open side car.

Ed  Are you trying to make something from things that you find around your shop or are you looking to buy the component's to fabricate it yourself?

Either one...but want something professional looking.

Ed, dad did something like that one time  on an old hotrod he had gotten traded to him. I came in and he was distressing it, filed l little on it and made just the attachment bracket. I asked him why he did that, he said it shoudn't look store bought, now it looks like it's old to.

Perhaps you could use a section of stainless steel exhaust pipe.  It could be polished up to make it look nice.

Ed.... How about  recycling  a small Fire Extinguisher  for a over flow container...might be able to use the mounting
        bracket also...FATnLOW

There's probably several things like that you could use.  A stainless steel thermos perhaps?  I'll look around the kitchen to see what else might work.

Thanks guys...I was thinking something like a used aluminum shock. The rebuildable ones have a screw in top, that could be modified with fittings?  Not an expert but I could TIG on mounting brackets etc
