Seeing The USA In A Chevrolet
« on: July 22, 2013, 06:47:54 PM »
My wife and I are on vacation.  We flew out to Denver last Friday and hopped into our rental, a 2013 Chevy Camaro RS Convertible.  I know it’s not an early 30’s Chevy but it’s the best Avis could offer.  We drove towards Yellowstone National Park staying overnight part way.  We arrived at Yellowstone Saturday morning with the top down ready to see some sights.  Here’s a few pics (to keep Moose happy!).  We are now on our way to the Black Hills of South Dakota.  To be continued…
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Tom

I'd say it's hard to beat the scenery  in Yellowstone...Those are some great pictures.
Don't let yourself get spoiled by driving that nice new Camaro convert and just remember anyone can buy a new car but your 33 is one of a kind!

Oh yeah...Don't worry about those stories  the geologist keep telling us about Yellowstone being the most likely place for a super volcano to erupt in the at any point in time....How fast did you say a 2013 Camaro can go???

Oh yeah I forgot to mention we end our vacation at a cruise night in Denver.  I'd prefer to have the 33 there but that's a long drive!

Lots of hot bubbling springs there but we made it out before any catastrophe!

Thanks Chopper.  We made our way east from Yellowstone to South Dakota.  The drive out of the park was steep and winding.  Lots of spectacular views to see through the windshield.  We had a stop at Devils Tower in Wyoming and then made our way through Sturgis.  Last night we visited Mount Rushmore and watched the lighting ceremony,  Very patriotic!  To be continued…

Tom

Thanks for posting some more of those great pictures! Someday I gotta get out to see Mount Rushmore!

A little trivia for you guys.....When the proclamation establishing Devils Tower as a national monument was published, the apostrophe was unintentionally dropped from “Devil’s”—and this clerical error was never officially corrected....Who knew or maybe your saying who cares ;)

For our last day in South Dakota we made our way to Deadwood.  Cool little town with an old west feel on the main street.  We saw this old truck parked there and on the way out we saw this old Texaco Station restored and turned into a speed shop.  Boondock's was on the way back to our cabin in Hill City.

The last full day of our vacation was spent driving back to Denver.  In all we put 2,308 miles on the Camaro.  We spent the last evening at two Cruise Nights in Aurora.  The first one was at Rosie's Diner and we got to meet Ray Prager and his wife Geri (hope I spelled it right).  My wife and I had a great time there and we got to check out Ray's truck.  Nice job Ray!  From there we followed Geri to the next Cruise at the Sonic in Aurora.

The Sonic Cruise was a blast.  I got to meet John (Ghost28).  We've been talking on line for over 6 years so it was great to finally meet.  We got to check out the 28 he's finishing and there were a few other old Chevys there.  The I was lucky enough to get a ride in his son in laws wild roadster with a blown hemi.  It definitely messed up my hair.  What a wild ride!

We ended the evening with a trip over to John's house to check out the Buick Roadster.  It is going to be a really cool ride.  John, Ray Geri my wife and I sat around and chatted for a while before it was time to go.  It was a great way to end the vacation and I'd like to thank John, Ray and Geri for their hospitality.  My wife Elaine and I felt like we were hanging out with old friends.  I hope we get to do it again!
