A LITTLE BREAK FROM THE NORM
« on: May 09, 2013, 09:36:06 PM »
The middle of May my son/n/law and I are heading off to Atwater Kansas for a weekend car show and hand drop 1/8th mile drag racing. We are gonna take his car the yorkster that we built in my shop a few years ago Some of you have probably seen it on the HAMB or in a magazine at sometime. It is a 38 dodge truck cab with the top taken off and the windshield chopped down to make a roadster body,  then we mated a 56 chrysler new yorker back half narrowed 15 inches, along with a modified 38 ford frame, we also cut down a 51 buick dash, steering collumn and interior trim for the comfort items. The engine is a 56 newyorker supercharged 354 hemi with twin 500 cfm edelbrock carbs, mated to race powerglide with a trans brake, manual shift valve body, and a lincoln versaille nine inch rear with 489 gears. If we don't break something it ought to be a good weekend of fun. yes that's my old ass in the passenger seat cruizing around Golden Colorado last year....John

Oh yeah with the gears and the powerglide trans, if you are not buckled in, those vinyl seats feel like you are gonna slide up and out of the car when he is under throttle. Kinda spooky I hope he gets a cage in it soon.

We just got back from Kansas. What a great weekend. Friday car show downtown followed up with a large fireworks display at there lake. All the local police turned a blind eye to the water burn outs in certain areas, and there were some hot cars in attendance, we even got into the action a few times. then saturday there was a large show down town with well over 300 cars showing up that is when the local officials and shops did there judging, then about 3:00 a bunch of us that wanted to do the 1/8th mile at the local airport lined up and headed out. everyone got only one run in before they called it because the clouds were real dark and showing signs of hail. We all hid in the local grain buildings and other places. the people we were staying at there home runs the local Napa store so we used Napa back garage for safety. After the all clear they had a pig roast and dance with live music at the lake in a large building. Sunday there was a morning show for everyone to talk bullshi#!, then the handed out the door prizes which included a new small block engine and numerous new tires and small custom painted refrigerators along with numerous smaller items. only one of our group won any of this stuff which was a small mig welder of some kind. he also one one of the local business awards. But out of all the cars Chads roadster with the hemi got a top ten pick award and just fell short of winning the pick for getting his car on next years t shirt. I had to use my camers instead of my wifes so the pictures might be a little large, but enjoy...John

These are pictures of a local guy that was displaying his toys. The picture in the last post was a 26 buick roadster pedal car that I had to get a picture of, and I really liked this hand build hearse he was showing.

Thanks. It was a blast. This is the car Chad ran against kinda sad to see it lose since it was a chevy. He ran well, but we got him by a fairly large margin, but it was all in good fun. 1933 chevy, small block, with a supercharger, and twin 4 barrels. nice car.

Hey John....Looks and sounds like it was a great time. Some real great detail on that model hearse. Small block engine for a door prize?...I guess you guys don't fool around!!! The best we get around my neck of the woods is a custom t shirt. Thanks for posting all of the great pics.
