Bought my 34 Master frame -what a story!
« on: December 13, 2020, 03:26:39 PM »
Been communicating with forum member "1932chevy" (AKA Ed) who owns Hopwood Hotrods and Auto Repair in Hopwood, PA.  Hopwood, Pa is something like a 1300 mile round trip from my place in NY.  Ed has a 1934 Chevy Master frame and I have been looking for a "close one" for a few years now??

Anyway I made plans to travel from my place with a trailer carrying stainless furniture, stay at my son's house in Lafargeville, NY over night on Friday, then on Saturday am drive down to Syracuse, NY to handoff the stainless items to my brother at the Farmers Market where he sells produce each Saturday. Staying at my son's would reduce travel by about 4 hours one way.

From the farmers market I intended on driving straight thru to Hopwood, pick up the frame and drive back to Lafargeville and spend the night at my sons. Which would be around a 16 hour day driving.

That plan didn't happen..instead on Friday evening at my son's house I decided to call Glen Rarick (see Chevy Parts Sources below) to say hello. Glen lives just down the road from my son. I mention to Glen that I'm about to take a long trip for a 34 Master frame...Glen say's "heck I think I got one right here...come on over and bring a flashlight".

Too make a long story short..Glen had a 34 master frame and I loaded it Saturday morning.  I did call Ed in Hopwood to apologize and he said don't worry..he had plans for the frame anyway.

Here is picture of Glen unloading the 34 frame that was in dry storage for about 15 years. I'm going to make another post shortly to list some "30's Chevy cars" and parts Glen has for sale.

Nice! I wonder how much of this stuff all of the people we know have stashed. How many cars could we piece together?  ;D

There's a big difference from a 32 to 34

The 33 was the year the A Pilar was slanted back...and mid year "safety glass" introduced.

I met Glen Rarick a few years ago.  He had sold some parts to a friend of mine nearby.  He stopped by my house before driving home to check out my 33.  I was still in the process of building at that time.

Glad you got the frame back and had a safe trip!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

This frame has provisions for right hand drive.  I was reading that Chevy had several factories around the country.  There was one near NYC where right had drive cars were produced and delivered to shipping ports in NYC for export to Europe and other right hand drive countries.

Cool story Ed! A few months ago I had seen on VCCA G&D magazine that Glen was looking for early Chevrolet parts! So I called him to see if he was interested in my 1934 Chevrolet Standard car rolling driving frame all restored in 1993 and that was from Australia right hand drive coverted over to a left hand drive! Yeah he was interested in some of my parts! But am looking at selling the complete package! He said that what I’m selling is in better condition and shape than the 34 Chevrolet frame that he had just bought!
Am sure you guys know that the ratio of early Chevrolet Master to Standard Chevrolet cars built is 7 to 1
Here’s a few pictures of my 34 complete Chevrolet Standard Rolling Driving Frame that I’m just trying to find a good home! Am only looking for $3800 for the complete package and many parts and could easily double the money if I sold it off in pieces! I  have many interested in different parts and could have easily sold it that way but would be a shame to take a good running car all apart! Here’s my Facebook Market place link and a few pictures!

RoarsRods

I have seen your chassis on a couple of occasions while searching he Internet for parts...hope it finds a good home.

BTW: Glen is looking for a 33 Standard hood if anyone has one.

Roars, That Chassis is easily worth what you are asking and I hope someone buys it. You are doing someone a great service by keeping it together.

When did Chevrolet move the shackles to the front of the spring?

What year is this hood?

Nice score, Ed, and it saved you a heap of time and driving. Also, good of Mr. Rarick to part with it. Sometimes guys hang on to stuff for no other reason than they just can't bear to give it up.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Thanks, I got it at a swap meet and was told it was a '32 but I knew that was wrong.

The 32 hoods had 4 doors per side.
