Small flames on your LP grill?
« on: March 29, 2017, 01:55:57 PM »
Anyway just got educated today, built a smoker out of a new half gym locker a while back and it always works fine after setting for a couple of weeks,  but after I fire it up - the flame size decreases the next time I use it?

So yesterday I installed another burner (bigger ;D) and fired it up! It ran great and stayed right on 200 degrees.....so I just turned the tank off so I would have the same flame dial location today ;)

Well anyway I fired it up again this am to smoke some chicken and I have the small flame syndrome again!  Did a youtube video search and had my smoker smoking again....what a simple fix! Been turning it off incorrectly.

Nice looking smoker Ed.  How about a pic with the door open?
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

I'm glad that I now don't have to worry about regulating that flame anymore....couldn't believe I was shutting it down incorrectly.  Anyway my favorite is chicken rubbed with seasoning,  prefer hickory wood for the smoke, put a little butter on the chicken at hour 2, keep the water tray topped off and wait until the chickens hits 160 degrees.

Love the chicken hot & right out of the smoker but also really like the chicken cold from the fridge...just slice it up and try not to eat it all in one sitting.

Got  a propane fueled smoker for Christmas...haven't tried it yet.... info posted on low flame was educational ..I fall in the
group that turn off the grill incorrectly.....normally  we smoke brisket ,ribs , brats ,sausages and chicken on my old smoker and use charcoal lumps and hickory for  smoke........getting to be about that time  for a good  cook out.....

Glad I'm not the only one. My uncle give me his old grill, my buddy did most the cooking on it when he lived with me during his divorce. He went through a couple bottles no prob. When he moved out I used it once then the second time low flame. Took the bottle down to Coop to refill. It worked great till I tried another time. I thought he just didn't get the bottle filled up >:(  Went back down to refill again, the man said you don't have to top off every week. Finally my buddy pointed out that you shut off the grill first then the bottle! Duh ::)

Nice smoker you made Ed!
