1971 GMC 1/2 ton for sale
« on: November 27, 2016, 09:53:34 PM »
I need to sell my GMC to get a bigger truck for hauling my firewood. $3500 or may trade for a M35A2 (Deuce and a Half)
Let's start with the bad. I had to drive it a few winters when my 4x4 went down so now there's rust starting. It's still very much worth saving as the patch panels for these are readily available. Tires have good tread but are cracking from age and a tie rod is getting loose. Pics will show everything. The bench seat has been swapped out for buckets from a 1999 Silverado for a better ride.

The good. She has a new, not a reman, but a new GM Goodwrench 350. It's new from oil pan to carb (Q-Jet), clutch to water pump. Headman Headers and Summit Racing knockoffs of Flowmaster mufflers. Has probably under 6000 miles. Running Brad Penn oil for the high zinc content. Still running the point ignition. Runs beautifully. I've been trying to find the receipts for everything but so far I'm coming up empty.
I'll give my cell number if anyone wants to talk about it.

Starting out with an old picture. The flash is making some of the pictures look a bit wonky.

Edit to add: I'm located in Whitney Point, NY

My daily driver is a 1995 S10 with 160,000 miles!  But it has the big 2.2 in it.

We do get a lot of surfers here...you never know.

lol..I was just being a smart ass using it to kinda bump the topic for anyone who looks for new replies.
Honestly, I think the cancer issue is swaying most away from it. I've had a lot of interest off of Craigslist and Facebook but most are concerned with the rust, which I can't blame them. Most people would rather sink $2000+ into an engine replacement than repair rust damage.

You could paint it red and install a white cap then advertise it as "FarmTruck's" older brother!

I have a '70 Blazer I'm the original owner no rust and a '68 flatbed similar rust. I have all the panels but it's a lot of work. Those are good trucks!

lol..I've always liked that truck. That old beater gits it. When I was younger, before the sleeper fad came out, I used to do the same. A friend and I both had Pontiac Sunbirds, late '70s rear wheel drive. Yank the 4 bangers out and drop in small blocks using parts scavenged from Chevy Monza Spiders. Grandma's grocery getter look that took many Stangs and Vetts by surprise going red light to red light in Bingamton lmao. We weren't smart enough at the time to cage them so the bodies didn't last long. After 10-15 hard launches you would start hearing popping sounds from behind the rear seat. Was the spot welds breaking. After that you couldn't keep the left front tire on the ground as the body would twist like a pretzel.  It was fun while it lasted and the body sources dried up. Not so much into hot rodding anymore. Now would just as soon cruze or hang out.

The '67-'72 Chevys are my favorite. I like the looks and way they are built. NY sucks for the rust issues. This one spent every winter in a barn since new, till I bought it. Even then I parked it in the winter till my 4x4 went to the bone yard. That's when the rust came in. I considered doing he work myself but I no longer have a garage to work in so I'm sure I wouldn't be happy with the outcome. I had a friend locally who did body work professionally that I wanted to farm it out to but he moved to Florida. Hopefully someone takes a liking to it. It would make me sick to put snow tires and a posi in it.

I agree with you on the rot issue, FrankenCub. I was always told it is easier to put an engine in a car than a car around an engine. However, looking at what they want for that '70 4x4 makes your 2wd a little more appealing. Hang in there, it will go.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

I took a 94 4X4 body and put it on a 1995 2wd 3500HD chassis this last winter...converted it from TBI to TPI.  I like seeing EFI in those old truck like yours and been going that route on all of my carbed cars.  Then again a lot of folks like the carbs on their vehicles...you just need the right person to find you.

Thanks, Ed, and everyone else for the encouragement. Sold it today finally, not quite what I was hoping for but close. Now the search begins for an M35A2. The past 4 that I looked at all sold. There's a lot of them for sale, but most are going for $6000+. Worth it, but I've got $4000 to work with. Still a couple in that range but they are non turbo engines, coal burners lol. The gov started putting turbos on them for EPA reasons for cutting down the black smoke lol.
