Car Trailer tie down setups?
« on: October 06, 2015, 04:23:29 PM »
Installing a new diamond plate steel deck on a hydraulic tilt bed 18' car hauler I just picked up, so while at it wanted to see what you guys use to anchor cars down.

My other 18' open center trailer has ramps and uses the 4" wide rear nylon ratchet type binders that I really like - very secure. Chain up the front then ratchet the car back (via axle straps) until tight.

This tilt trailer is 18' of  flat sheet with 4 flush mounted tie down rings at each corner, anchoring the vehicle in the front is easy, my question is how do you guys tie the cars down in the back and still keep the trailer surface completely flat.

I have a set of straps with multi-choice anchor hooks and if I can locate the slotted plates - could weld them in and keep the surface flat.

Would also like to consider setting it up for a motorcycle while I'm at it.

Thanks

Ed a friend of mine was a Red Neck trailer part dealer and made some trailers for a while. He built one for a guy that was configured like drawing below. Flush mount (counter sunk) "D"rings, in 4" and 2". It was over kill with the amount of rings, but the guy said he was tired of not having enough. The 2" ones were located next to the very edge of the trailer (and down the middle). He said that was the handiest trailer he ever had.

As far as the strap down, we used the D rings and always criss crossed the ratchet straps frt & rear. (LF car to RF trailer, RF car to LF trailer, etc.) Never had one slide to the side anyway.
