« on: August 21, 2015, 12:29:28 AM »
Hi everyone, this is the first time i am posting to a forum so forgive me if there is a lingo that i dint know.  My dad is looking for a source of steel parts for a 1934 Chevy coupe.  The rear part i believe its called a gas tank skirt but I'm not sure.  I found fiberglass pieces but he is adamant t on steel. Any suggestions is much appreciated. Thanks for reading

Welcome to the forum..steel tail pans show up on ebay occasionally. Check with Glen Rarick (link below) I traded one with him a while back for some other parts, he has a couple 40' trailers full of vintage Chevy parts.

At least with the 1934 master outselling the 34 standard by 6--1 you have a good chance of finding one.

My suggestion is to purchase a fiberglass one and install it in order to be able to drive the car for now.  Then when you locate a usable  " gas tank cover panel " you can put that on.  Took me 12 years to find a good steel one that wasn't going to take 20--30 hours to repair.  Just had the one for my 35 standard roadster re-done and cost around $1600 labor to repair it properly.

Plus some specialized machinery with custom made forming dies to do the repair.

Mine got bottom cut off because according to body shop the metal had been worked too much and was no longer usable.  They did a super job of repairing it properly including filling extra holes and a serious oil can problem in middle area.

Welcome to the forum.  The steel panels in good shape are tough to come by.  I have one for my 33 that needs some work but I did like Mike suggested and bought a fiberglass one to get me by for now.  Keep your eyes out for one though.

I can't help with you with the tank cover, but welcome to the Rusty Bowtie!
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Here's a phone number for a guy (502-418-1863 ) in Lawrenceburg, KY. who has 1933-1939 Chevrolet parts. I met him in Louisville Ky. at the Street Rod Nationals. He had fenders, hoods, tail light assemblies, grilles, grille shells give him a call. You can find his add on Craig's list under Lexington Ky. searching in parts 1934. He shows tail aprons in his pictures.
