Looking to fabricate a light duty flat bed dump on my 3500HD 135.5 WB cab chassis. The bed will be 7.5 wide and 9.5 long with wood deck (don’t want a metal deck this time around).
I have a heavy duty scissors hoist that I removed from a 3500HD dump truck (pic attached), don’t want to use it because it just takes up too much space and the height would require a higher bed surface.
Prefer to use a single cylinder:
Tie Rod Cylinder
3.5X24
Shaft 1.5”
Retracted 34.25
Extended 58.25
From my rough estimates (ground lay out) I should be able to easily obtain a 45 degree angle - plenty for my hobby farm needs. I understand that the scissors lift technically lifts the bed whereas the single cylinder actually pushes it up which is harder on the bed hinges and hydraulics…but I can’t locate a small scissors hoist.
Questions:
How big of a hydraulic oil tank is need for a full extension of the 3.5X24 cylinder, will be using it as a single function cylinder (ie gravity down).
Will that cylinder be sufficient, it will have at least an 8” drop angle.
Thanks
