Pulled the old Scat-Trac tires off, found a nasty suprise inside. The tires haven't been off since them and wheels were new around 1973. So stripped the paint back off the front center section and went to his freinds big glassbead cabnet for a full clean up of rust on the inner hoops. Got that all cleaned up and time to repaint. Painted back with dull aluminium, the inside hoop bright silver and the out side centers black again. I think they turned out great.

Thanks Tom, i think hes doing good for what he has to work with.
He got the cracked lacquer sanded off the console lid and housing. Also the chipped up stepwell and got all repainted and back together.
He said everytime he messes with the seat cushions, more amd more 68yr old foam falls apart. I noticed the drivers seat back is losing its arch. Of course '58 is a one year only and replacement is between $400 to $600 pending vendor🤯 No funds for that right now, same goes for the old red carpet trunk mat, ($350-450).
For now he just spent $20 at a big box store for some black carpet amd cut that. It'll do for now, many more important things to get to.
Next.... tackle the hood latches.

Thanks sixball, he plans too. Talked to him yesterday, he said he sold some spare Camaro parts and ordered a set of tires from his local tire shop. If they get in, he and the wife plan to drive it into town for lunch🙂

Well friday he loaded up the wheels and went to town to get mounted, they didn't arrive yet. Monday they call tires are here, loads wheels back up and into town.... wrong size😡 Weds they call, they are here. So load back up and finally got them mounted. We went with the same size as the original Scat-Track tires were, (radial equivelant). (245/60-14 rear, 215/70-14 front)
He wasn't happy with names on cheaper brand tires like Cobra, Futura etc, just didn't have that vintage badging. So had to up to BFG's to look era correct.
Thats the look we both remember the car with all those years growing up. We are happy with it anyway. I told him i'm not a fan of shinny tire dressing. I like mine white letters brite but tires just clean natural, but as much as they cost... you have to preserve them i guess.
Got the required tire break in done to remove those casting nubs, for safety you know. 🙂
