Back in 1919 when four Essex cars made their four separate runs the tech was pretty low. All four cars made it from coast to coast two started in New York and two in San Francisco. They did not travel together. The fastest time was 4 days 14 hours and 43 minutes. The average of the four was 4 Days 21 hours and 32 minutes. That's 117.5 hours in four cylinder cars over almost totally dirt roads. !919 was the year the Lincoln Highway established. It was mostly a bunch of signs that pointed to the next section of dirt wagon road. They did this to show that the Essex was a fast and dependable car to convince the US Government the give them a Mail contract.
