Turnsignal bulbs
« on: October 15, 2013, 09:49:17 AM »
The turn signals on my 1930 are not very bright, nor are the brake lights.  Can I simply change the bulbs with led bulbs for a brighter light?

You can replace the incandescent bulbs with led bulbs with no problem but you will either need to install a led load equalizer for the signal lights or even better an electronic flasher....see the link below

If you don’t want to go with the LED bulbs you can try Sylvania 2357 bulbs.  They have the same socket as the 1157 bulbs, the tail lights would be the same brightness but the brake lights and turn signals are brighter.  They are about the same cost as an 1157 bulb.  I haven't set up my tail lights on the 33 yet but this is the bulb that was recommended to me.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

If you are running a 6v or generator system that could be related to the problem.  Not sure of your charging setup.

Another possibility is Ron Francis "Brite Bulbs". They are available in both 6 and 12 volt and have a higher candle power that the standard 1157 or 1158 bulbs

Radio Shack rectifier diode part # 276-1144. $1.99 for two. Solder one in line for each. Supposed to increase 40%. I bought the parts today. Just had another shoulder surgery so I have to wait to try it. Let me know.

ADD SOME RELAYS
you wont beleive the difference in brightness.
and it is a lot safer because all that juice isnt going through the switch
