My wife inherited a small pickup truck recently.  It was her grandpa's since new, he passed years ago .  Her grandma was diagnosed with dementia recently.  We picked it up last night. Been sitting a year and had new tires,  clutch, battery.
It took awhile to get started,  battery didn't want to take a charge on high.  Needed some gas,  poured some down the throttle body and slowly fired up. Didn't want to rev but when I made it to the highway it ran much better. Drove 40 miles home.  It's a 88 Mazda b2200.  Bench seat needs some repair but it's in great condition for the year and 123,000 miles.  Don't really need another vehicle but she wants to take it to a cruise night now and then.  So I'll support that.
Mini trucks are making a comeback. She hasn't been in it since she was 5yrs old.

Those were good little trucks. I hope she enjoys it.

Sorta' car related. I hauled my tractor over the mountain to my son's house in south Reno near the Davis fire that has been burning fir days now. Wind is the issue now and spreading from airborne embers. The spray rig and front bucket could help control fire from falling enters, If the neighborhood catches fire nothing will help.

So Leroy & I loaded it on my trailer with no lights or brakes, fenders falling off and I forgot to put the new license tag on it. Made it without seeing any cops. I'll fix some of that before I bring it home.

They are getting a handle in the fire. The big wind fear didn't happen. Probably wasted the trip unless my son works on the trailer & fixes a hydraulic leak in the tractor.  ::)

She saw my extra glass pack laying on the shop floor and asked if I'd make it louder.  I said let's look at the muffler,  if it's rotting out I will but for now enjoy the quiet. 😉
She was like wth, nothing you have is quiet.

Took the 33 to the Cruise Downtown in Manchester NH.  They shut down the Main St for over 800 cars and 70,000 spectators.

Good for you. Thats quite a gathering. I missed a small town show 30miles north 2 weeks ago. Haven't had a car there in several years so they quit sending me a flyer, i forgot.

Had Tom swing by when he got off work to help me reconnect my gutter down spout. I can't get my arms up over my head🙄
Anyway he dropped off his old battery charger to see if i could fix it.
Checked clip ends first, they were tight and no corrosion. Hooked it up to my old truck battery, nothing on any setting. Took top case off and did a visual for any corrosion or loose connections, everything was good and plugged on. Checked rectifier board and diodes, no overheat i could tell. Both diodes were still bonded good. Hummed nice and at different settings, so i figured stepdown transformer was good. Last i checked the auto reset breaker, there it was... open. Took it off, rattled like crazy when i shook it. Probably overheated flex plate or contact point fell off. Put a jumper wire in and it charged. Called parts house, they had a 12v 30a and a 40a, but not a 35a.

Called Tom and told him 30 might work but don't try starting on 100a boost. 40a ..... well 5a over, but just don't over do it on boost setting. He said go 40a. Lol it was cheaper than the 30a by $6.
Installed it and it was charging at 14.75v on the 15amp setting. It brought my 8.7v batt up to 11.7v in 13mins. I called it good and put it back together

Sure glad i was able to fix it for him, simple as it was and only $8.95 in parts😁

Good work! I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe that is part of the reason I have so many not working stuff taking up space here.

Thanks, got lucky it was an obtainable part. When i opened it up and seen the circut board on the rectifier i thought i might have to get a book out😁   I guess thats the "automatic" charger part. I like the manual ones. I had one for a while that somebody give me, (cord was bad), if your battery was dead you had to trick it jumping in a little 9v batt to get it started 🙄

Sixball, i'd guess about 60% of old electronics, (no computer chip things),  its usualy a bit of corrosion on connection, broken wire or a wire that fell off.  Usually a simple muti-meter for checking voltage or ohms for continuity to find problem.

I'm sure you are right. I have a bit of experience with Borg Warner overdrives. I would bet that at least 90% of the solenoids thrown away had a melted primitive fusible link just under the cover. I discovered this in Kingman AZ on a trip to Texas with my son in his '54 Studebaker Conestoga stating wagon. Luckily we found a young owner of an auto electric shop who had never seen a BW OD that was curious enough to listen & take a look. He asked " Do you mean that that thing has a two stage solenoid that shifts it into overdrive with one winding and holds it in with a second winding?" I told him it did. He said "If it come apart  can fix it." He was thinking of rewinding burned up coils. When he removed the cover we saw the separated link. He soldered it back together. The 70-75 mph trip from there to Texas was much more pleasant that the 50-55 mph drive from Vegas to Kingman . I've repaired a few of those since. What an attitude. If it comes apart I can fix it!
