Title: Getting Insurance
Post by: Rattiac on June 17, 2014, 08:21:16 PM
Im gonna be calling my Insurance agent tommorow to get the 32 Pontiac insured.
They recommend Haggarty ins.
I have a question or 2 for those of ya with this insurance .
1.) What should I expect him to be looking at and questions he would ask ?
2.) How can I find out the accurate value of my car ?
3.) How much ($$$) should I insure it for ?

Any other info that could be useful .

.

FYI:

Hagerty couldn't beat the price of J.C.Taylor (for me anyway).

Obviously the more you insure it for..the more you pay.  I gave them my value and only had to supply pictures.

I have Condon and Skelly Antique Ins. Pretty much like the rest of the classic ins co's. I'm limited to 2, 500miles per year, per vehicle.

1- depends on personal visit or phone/interweb. My co. Wanted to know C.I.D., trans, options, what was modified, anti-theft device installed, storage location, type of building, etc.

2-you can go with Agreed Value, but it needs to be with in reason. Must  have photos of all angles, inside and out, trunk, under hood, underneath if possible. It helps to have receipts,  but best of all to protect youself try to get it appraised. There are many reputable appraisers all over the country. Usually around $300. Well worth it in case of a claim. Old Cars Price Guide is close if stock and description is honest.

3- what you have invested at least, unless you go over the top on time and money. Once again, get an appraisal.

Well I got some insurance today. My agent set me up on progressive (since im already a customer).
They seemed hesitant to do Haggarty since its a rat-rod right now and not much has been invested into the body itself. Right now its liability and can change it whenever I want. I told em' the cars value is about 10k and so far have about 5 grand into it (+ - ) . I doubt I'll be doing much driving this year in it anyway. Its not ready for Highway speeds yet so I'll have to keep it to the backroads under 50mph till I get comfortable with it at higher speeds .
Anyhow I can go register it tomorrow and get a Antique/Horseless carriage plate for it .
