Wheat harvest just starting here. Boy it just isn't the same as the old days. Early 70s it was a big 3 week deal here with many custom cutting crews. Now few crews but huge equipment, and runs a little over a week (weather permitting) When John Deere entered the selfpropelled combine market post WW2 with the Model 55, and were still using many thru the early 70s here. The #55 header was 12' wide, todays John Deere is up to 45 foot.

My dad and uncle bought an International self propelled in the mid 50s. We lived in Texas and my uncle was in new Mexico. We would start at one place one year and custom cut our way to the other place. It worked pretty well until the drought took the profit out of it.
