Title: transmission adaptor
Post by: ghost28 on February 13, 2013, 10:32:33 AM
Hey guys I am looking for a transmission adaptor to put a GM 4 speed behind a 62 buick 401 engine. I have found a complete kit,  but it costs $1,150.00. So if you know of anyone that has decided to not run there buick engine and has the complete kit laying around let me know. I know this is a long shot, but I have to try before I pull the trigger on the new item...Thanks....John

Thanks Tom. That's the site I have been thinking about buying from. The unit you are referring to is for the older model nail head mine is the 57 to 63 unit for $850.00. I am gonna have to contact them to find out about the price difference from $850.00 to $1150.00 for the complete kit which is what I need. Thanks again . I'll let ya know how it turns out....John

I suspect you are trying to build old school...but have you considered a T5 or NV3500. Think you mentioned running hydraulic clutch anyway :-X :-X

Here is the Jegs page:

It's the bellhousing flywheel and cltuch that cost all the money ,you could put any tranny you want behind the bellhousing, I have a 66 425 nailhead for my 33 coupe but to find a bell housing is like finding hens teeth. Most of buicks cars were luxury vehicle's riviera wildcat etc not to many ordered with a stick.I will run the automatic till I find the parts for what I am willing to pay joe mac

Thanks, but the one at Jegs is over $500.00 just for the bell housing although it is a scatter shield which I really don't need. The bell housing I have been looking at is $325.00 and then the new flywheel is another $325.00. You are right the clutch, pressure plate and all the  related items are what the rest of the cost is all about. Some times I think an automatic would be easier,  but to put a modern automatic behind the 62 engine would cost about the same price.  A 4 speed will be so much more fun in this little roadster. Thanks guys I might have to bite the bullet for this car....John
