Making a flatbed and need some channel like in the first picture. Can find the standard channel like in the 2nd picture but that tapered opening doesn't allow for the deck boards to seat fully inside.
Years ago I had a shop cut and form my channel from a 4X8 sheet of 9 gauge..I'm sure someone sells the formed channel..but for search purposes..what is it called?
Thanks

Ed,
The second picture is called U Channel. You can look it up on McMaster Carr. The first picture is also U Channel but formed from sheet metal. Didn't see any on McMaster's website but I'd check with your local steel guy.

Thanks Tom..I can locate the standard U channel but not the formed version. My choices around here are limited- may need to look over in Vermont or downstate NY. Tried searching for the formed U channel with no luck.

Ed,
Found this on a google images search of u channel steel. They mentioned "rolled steel framing". Hope it helps.

Looks like it's described as "formed U channel"

I usually have to have mine made. Good luck with your project.

Thanks guys - located this business not far from here in Vermont, asked them for a quote. FYI good source for truck frames etc

I would think any machine shop would be able to form it for you if they work with sheet material

Rec'd the estimate, for (2) 9 foot and (2) 7.5 foot pieces of channel 5" height..well over $1100. I can buy a complete bed for that amount.
I have plenty of 4" channel that was given to me...and will be using it.

Wow Ed. Must be made from gold bars.

On another note, this outfit has some pretty neat kits:
