Post by: woodremover on February 03, 2013, 02:38:37 PM
Redoing a 34 chev 1/2 ton as well. This is going to be my wife's ride.
Plan are an early chev inline 250 with a 700r4 transmission and a 411 posi toyota rear end.The Toyota rear end has 6 bolt stud pattern that gm wheels fit and is the same width as a 34 chev rear end.Truck will remain basically stock in apperence includind wire wheels.

Real nice looking truck. That will be what I am looking for in the future if possible. I like the 682 guide headlights and turn signals that are on the truck so if you aren't gonna use them let me know. For your wife????? Have fun with it and you have a solid build plan I hope with fenders. I have a 78 chevy 250 inline truck engine put away for future.

Gotta love those early Chevy trucks. With a 700R4 and an inline six even with the 4:11 gears she should get good mileage. Whats your idea for the bed floor?

Very nice...that cab looks great...wish my project looked that good.  I started at the other way...have the chassis, engine, tranny, wiring almost done.  My last stage will be the body!

just thought I would update the progress on my 34 chev pick up . just about ready to take it apart and start priming and paint. I still have to do the chassis plans are a Toyota 4 runner rear end and a 52 chev front axle all 6 bolt to run the original wire wheels . Toyota 6 bolt axles are the same as chev 6 bolt and are 52 inches wide , the same as chev rear end

Your truck is looking great. Where did you find the bed and rear fender?...They look to be brand new.

Nice work, looks like you have the chassis laid out well.  I like the idea of using the original wheels.  It'll be nice to see some color on it but it does look great naked.

I like the wire wheels too. Have you checked them on your drums yet? My 19" wires wont fit on the later drums which I think started in'52. I am using what I think are '49-'51. They work perfectly but I may have to use the older style brakes too.

Hey Moose
My friend has a sheet metal shop and made me a complete box.
He even made a die to make the 1 1/4 roll in the top rail. made all new crossbraces
for under the wood and a new front panel. He took all the dimensions from my old box
which wasn't to rusty ,but banged up real bad.
The rear fenders came from bowtie reproductions in ohio. Of course after I purchased these I found a good set of rears.
I also have a pretty good set of 30 to 33 pu fenders I may post here when I get a chance to take a few photos
