Title: Car thoughts
Post by: Dugeman on October 19, 2014, 09:42:23 AM
I have had a lot of cars over the years  .55-57 Chevy's  4 barrels to fuel injections . Even had a 57 sedan delivery NHRA record holder. Had 69 ram air Oldsmobile, 69 Z-28 .93 Z-28 (race car) and a Pontiac G8. But in all those years and all those car none put a smile on my face like the my little black primered 32 Coupe does everytime I walk in to the garage . A couple shows I have been to, I have been letting parents take pictures of their kid in the coupe .You would think it was with Santa , they line up. Thanks for reading. just rambling on a Sunday morning.

Dugeman,
I'm sure you get lots of thumbs up and big smiles as you're driving it back and forth to those shows.  It's cool you let the kids sit in it.  That's the best way to get them interested and keep the hobby going.  Keep putting the smiles on their faces :)

Like you I have owned all types of cars during my life but I have not enjoyed any of them more than my 38, I let people sit in it and sometimes I'll take them for ride. They seem to really like it when you pass someone or pull up next to them at a traffic light and get the thumbs up, I sometime see a smile come on their face and that tells me that they are enjoying the moment.

It interest me how people are drawn to "unfinished" cars especially the ones they can touch. I understand why guys with "pretty" cars shoo kids away to protect expensive finishes. Visual stimulation is fine while you are standing there looking but kids especially can still have the touch and smell when they walk away. Make them remember what a hot rod feels and smells like and you've got them. Let 'em lick the tires and they are hooked forever. :o

I agree, it worked on me ;D as a kid!! All my cousins used to beg dad to give them a ride in one of his hotrods, (and not an easy one) dad loved to smoke the tires. I try to give kids a ride any chance I get, the smile on their face is worth it all. I just try very very hard to refrain from a wild ride (unless I know them.
