Are these brackets OEM for a 37 Chevy ?
« on: March 29, 2014, 08:48:57 AM »
My son's 37 Chevy sedan has these brackets up front..they look like tow bar brackets and factory installed?

Anyone see anything like this?

They sure look like tow brackets. I checked all the information I have on my 38 and there is nothing said about tow brackets as a option. Sure would be interested to know if that's what they are for sure.

Hmmm. Maybe it was an old patrol car and those brackets were for the amber lights up front they used to have on them. I had a 60 pontiac 2 door sedan that was an old highway patrol car and it had some aftermatket brackets in different locations that you'd swear they were factory installed.

Maybe getting closer...the brackets look like they have factory rivets securing them. I would think nuts/bolts would be on an aftermarket part, but back in those days rivets may have been the standard.

The other thing to note is that they would be below the bumper mount?

Thanks

Ed...I ran this by the guys at VCCA and this is the response.

That is where the front of the front leaf spring mounts on a Master.
The Master Deluxe with knee-action does not have this.

I looked through car pic's  under 37 chevies and could not find one 37 chevy with those brackets mounted on the frame. I don't believe they are for leaf spring mounting, they are kind of narrow for that, but I have been proven wrong before. What suspension is under the 37 now, is it the original knee action?

It has a Corvair unit bolted on, but that will be replaced with a Mustang 2 in the next few weeks...it is an 80's build?

Here are some pictures of a frame that the guy is installing IFS and talks about removing the factory spring perches that are no longer needed. It would seem that the guys at VCCA got it right.

Thanks for the pictures...I'll use them as a partial reference as I mount the IFS.
