Don't know how long I have owned my auto darkening helmet...but it had me going crazy today.  Started tig welding and noticed that the arc was brighter than usual and that I couldn't see my puddles.  Since I have a history of vision problems thought it was on my end and started turning the buttons on the helmet...no change.

Took it apart - assumed it had dead batteries and looked for a battery cover..NONE

Had to use a knife to separate (break open) the module covers...sure enough inside were (2) 2032 coin batteries, replaced them and used super glue to put it back together....work fine.  Looking at how the batteries were installed...I don't think the manufacturer wanted the batteries replaced...

Ed.....I have a question. I have a so called solar-powered auto-darkening helmet. It only cost 39.00 and so far after 8 years is still going strong. I often wondered if it had batteries that were being recharged or was strictly relying on solar powered. The only thing the instructions advised was not to store it in a dark place for an extended period of time as it could alter it's ability to darken properly.  Is yours considered to be solar powered?

I often wondered if it had batteries that were being recharged or was strictly relying on solar powered. The only thing the instructions advised was not to store it in a dark place for an extended period of time as it could alter it's ability to darken properly.  Is yours considered to be solar powered?

I got it on ebay.....Something like this one     http://www.ebay.com/itm/Auto-Darkening-solar-power-Welding-Helmet-Arc-TIG-MIG-Weld-Mask-ansi-certified-/321220268706?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aca3852a2  but not exactly the same. I'll have to take a look at mine and see who the manufacture is. Maybe I can get more info on it.

Thanks for bringing this up...I need to look at mine to see if it solar powered...I think it is, just not sure.
