32 chevy roadster doors
« on: December 26, 2013, 10:40:34 PM »
Started replacing the fiberglass doors. On my roadster with steel. I had left door looked for 15 years for right. Found one at hershey last year.
I hope I can remember how to line them up. They have hidden hinges. A very tight fit.It took me a 1/2 hour to get the door off. After I had the hinge apart.

Are you installing the steel skins on the old fiberglass frames?

Good find Don, looking forward to more pics.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

No Moose. I was able to get two new inside door frames from Bowtie repro.  And the right hand door skin. He bought all the 32 Chevy parts from Experimetal. He told me I have parts to make eight roadsters. And I have three left hand skins. And twenty four right hand skins.

trbomax  The fit was right on. But after six years of driving. I got a small chip on top of door. Where it hit the steel molding on the lock side. If I can find a three piece hood now. I will have a complete steel car. The glass was thick and it just set over the steel molding. Six years of bumps was just to much. If it was all glass it it may have lasted longer.

Went to H.F. to pickup a pair of welding clamps. To make the tools I need to hold the door and hinge together.

The tool worked out good. But when I tried to post photos were to large. Plus it is to cold on the side I have the hot rod on.
I will have to move the wife's car out. Put my car in the heated side. Take more photos tomorrow.
Need to get the lines closer on the outside. And have someone clamp the inside. Then I can open the door and put in the screws.

This is the hinge with all the covers off. This is how I will hold it.  Once I get the vise gripes and door in the right spot. I can open the door and put a few screws in it.

The more I think about it. I will fix the fiber glass and drive it. When the road rash gets bad. And I get a steel hood. I will repaint it and I don't have to try to match the paint. This is the chip on door top. I can hide that a lot easier. Then I can match the paint.
