just thought of it, after using non pointed drift to start the process of moving the rusted rod, you can only go  a short distance.

If memory serves me correctly, as i also was working alone, i clamped vice grips on end and tapped the vice grips while twisting.

Figure on vice grips coming off 3-4 times and chewing up the rod.

Made another buck to stabilize the hood while soaking the side
rods so I can disassemble hood...using liquid wrench to try free the rods..so far no luck in moving it so I will let it sit and periodically shoot the liquid wrench to it

keep soaking it.   For mental comfort have friend hold it.   Use body dolly on rod and whack it hard to start the loosening process.  Body dolly bigger target than 3/16 rod end and allows more force to be used.

Have a friend operate the vice grips twisting.

Awesome.  Patience is tough to come by sometimes!

A machinist friend of mine used to recommend this.

its all the same product does the same thing.  Depending on which store you walk into to buy the product.

Now find some 3 / 16 stainless steel rods and never have a problem again..

If re-painting the hood, make sure you super clean it so none of the rust buster liquid remains, otherwise look for painting problems.

When I worked at Carquest I discovered Knocker Loose. It is definitely not the same as the rest and is the best commercial penetrating oil I have used. What I use now is a 50/50 mixture of ATF and acetone or paint thinner. The ATF doesn't need to be new. It's way cheaper than the rest.
What ever you use the main ingredient is the necessary amount of time and patients, not often a 50/50 mix.  ;D

I liked it better red.  ::) It looks nice and straight. These old hoods can be difficult.
