Progress!  Looks great!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Column is mounted. Just need to figure out how the shifter goes in.
No instructions.  Has a spring and pin.

Rattiac, love your steering wheel. Looks like early Camaro/ Corvette.

Look inside the shift boss, you should see a little hole the spring sets in. Put some heavy grease on the spring to hold it there, shove shifter in and pin it. Pending spring stiffness, may have to hold in hard. Could go to one side with a punch to align the hole while you insert the pin.

Thanks Sammons.  I found a set of instructions through Summit racing for thier columns.
I have today off so once it warms up I'll be going out to the shop.
Need to get a new set of screwdrivers.  I thought I had a good set but they all started breaking the handles recently.
Hoping to sort out the lower mount and get ready for the wiring.

Thanks Essex.  Today I installed the shifter and levers. It's a bit more "bling" than I wanted but it'll do.
Also I used the lower mount from the 68 column.
I'm gonna make a list of things I need to order.
1.) 1"dd to 3/4" universal joint.
2.) 3/4" dd Rod
3.) Steering column pigtail kit.  Mine had no connectors,  just the plastic plug.
4.) A new tachometer.  Mine won't mount to the column.
5.) Column shifter linkage kit.

For now  everything is on hold , till parts come.

Oh wow, you have LOADS of space around the column where the shifter linkage connects.
I have been worrying today about everything that will have to fit at the back of the engine
on my Buick.
I'm assuming your shifter linkage will be fairly straightforward to set up, hope so.

Well you do have 6 more cylinders than me 😳😎.
Parts came in and today I hooked up the new borgensen joint and shaft.  Seems huge due to the 1"dd on the column end  .
Re-entered the steering wheel.
Hopefully I can get to the linkage and wiring this weekend.  The significant other wants to spring clean.

Wondering about the horn button.  This steering wheel has 2 wires.

I do have six more cylinders, but the engine is actually almost exactly as long as a small block
Chevrolet with a long water pump. so I guess your engine might actually be longer than mine.
Looks like the steering shaft, 3/4" D-D, goes pretty close to the headers. Funny that there's
never too much space, even if it looks good at the planning stage.

Regarding the horn button, maybe it's just a switch which lets the electrons flow from one
terminal to the other when you press the button?

That's just the angle of the pic.  Plenty of clearance by the header.
I made the motor mounts in anticipation of having 2 more cylinders.

Today I hooked up the Summit shifter linkage kit.  According to the instructions in park the lower adjustment is made but after park,  the indicator is off.  R, N, D, 3,2,1.
Low 1 is reading L2.
When I set it to L1 to L1 , then I can't get it into park.
Tried a few times and walked away.  Plus it's still winter here. 🥶

Just with the stock linkage on my '06 Solverdo (in good condition) it took 3 cables before I got one that would adjust correctly.

Yesterday I left everything loose and went through the gears,  then it all lined up well.  Tightened it up and still good.  Park and reverse are a bit to the left but I'm not gonna be picky.
Now I can start wiring.

There's always some fiddling to get the shifter linkage to work right, when you're modifying things.
Good work getting it to function right.

Rattiac, glad it settled in to a happy medium for you. Sometimes all you need is to walk away for a while😁
