Ed, that appears to be a pre 1977 column. If it dosen't have that "tumor" with multiple fuctions on the turn switch handle, it should be just the ignition switch.

Here's a funny twist of events.

This morning I ordered the tilt steering column with shifter and key.
Then after work I went over to my dad's to sell a old dirt bike we had sitting around.  While looking through stuff in our storeroom for more stuff to sell, I glanced over in the corner at a 72 truck hood and sitting beside it was a 68 GMC steering column w/shifter. 😲
Now I'm seriously thinking of canceling the order.  Or can use it for mock-up and pass it along to someone down the road.
This does give me info on some critical measurements I needed.
Anybody need a column  ?

Lol, ain't that the way it goes😁  Usually i know i have something but can't find it. Order one and find the one i knew i had.

Well... if you don't need the tilt and don't mind a key on the dash, and it won't give you a black eye as a buyer, use it.

There is a message there. Either you have too much stuff  (blame it on Dad) or you are getting old. If it happens again the same day it is age.  :)  Like Sammons I know I have it but don't know where I put it. Next are the things I find when looking for something else and I have an "Oh yeah, I forgot I bought that already!" moment. Then there are the more worrisome moments, " What is that and where the heck did that come from?" This is why part of my shop reorganization effort is hanging the roadster parts & other cool stuff on the walls in plain sight and resisting hanging junk infant of it. Maybe even get rid on some stuff?  ::)

Well one thing I'm glad I hung onto was the wiring kit box.  It has the column connector and extra wires if needed.  Not sure why but I'm looking forward to that part.
I'll need to order a  adapter kit for the new 6 hole style steering wheel.

Column came in Friday along with the steering wheel adapter from summit.
Did a ton of measuring and the only thing I didn't account for was the brake pedal.  According to my measurements. It may hit the shifter lever at the bottom.  😟
Now I may have to send it back.  Possibly use that 68 column,, cause that is the exact length the 33 column is.
Saturday I'll cut that out and make sure before I contact the seller.

Seems every time you change one thing, you would have to change ten other ones down the line. Hope you get it sorted so that you can both steer and stop.

My favorite steering columns are from S10 and full size trucks with manual transmission pre-air bag. The S10 is the easiest to work with because it's shorter.

Well,  it's official.  The old "Death Column" is out.
No turning back now.
Used some protective plastic for carpets to cover anything important.  After comparing all 3 columns side by side to eachother, im starting to feel better about it.
I'm gonna re-use the column dash mount but modified of course. 😉
It has the ride control & freewheel knobs I'd like to keep for historical reasons.  It's magnetic so I can weld to it.

Sounds good, you have made a decision. It always feels betterwhen you have a plan to work off of.
That car looks very cool, if I'd live close by, I 'd come over and ask for a ride to some place where
I can buy you a coffee.
So cool with the wood doors and all.

Thanks Essex.  Hope ya have your shots up to date.  😉💉

Today I was able to get the dash mount out.  One bolt broke and the other had to get cut.
Looking at the mount itself,  I'm starting to wonder if I can weld to it.
???
It's magnetic and taking a grinder to it,  looks like steel.

EDIT )))
I took it over to a professional welder by my work.  He said it is cast steel and mig welding to it is no problem.  He welded the 2 halves together.  I'll do the bracket.

Everything is all mocked up.  Measurements from the dash to the steering wheel all line up.
The brake pedal comes to the end of the column.  If I flip the bracket it'll clear.  Looking at a cable kit.  I think I could rotate this anywhere I wanted right ?
Boy that steering wheel is making the rest of the interior look bad.
