Great find!

Pic's.
EDNY.  Thanks for the info. I have 3:73's . 65mph is a bit loud in this car at 3,000rpm's .

I'll probably have to pull the engine to install this since the crossmember isn't removable.

Since im going to need a shifter after this swap.
I want to clean up the floor and go with a column shifter.  What are my options ?
Would a chevy square body truck column work?

Rattiac Square body will work, but you will have to deal with the fat column cover and ign switch. If you use a '67-72 Gm pickup, they are the skinny tapered cone column and no ign switch.

Also late 60s to mid 70s Gm vans had that column and a lot were tilt. Sometime in the mid-late 70s the vans got the ign switch

This is the column you may want (60s-70s)

Good suggestions Sammons.  Is there a reason you don't want to use one of the aftermarket ones available?

Good info Sammons 👍. I didn't even think about the key switch 😄.
Looking at some of the aftermarket units,  prices ain't too bad.  I may go that route.
Is there anything else I need to consider before swapping out my "death column" ???
Measurements,  ect....

What columns are you guys using?

I'm using a Ididit column in my 32 and had aftermarket in my 38. I wasn't or not very happy with either one.  They both have movement in them, A factory one seems to be stiffer.

I have an Ididit in my 33 with tilt.  Shifter is on the floor.  I'm happy with mine.

Ididit in my 32, no problems, also a floor shifter
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

I figured I could kill 2 birds with one stone by going to a column shifter.  Plus the Dakota has a column shift,  I kinda like.
Haven't had one since my 73 nova high school dayz.

Checked in with the trans guy today.  Said it looks rebuilt but had some leafs/debris inside from the missing dipstick tube.  He's gonna clean out the pump.  Should be able to pick it up next week.

Went to the last carshow of the year (labor day).
Felt good getting some miles in it.  Car did well in the 100° heat on the highway.

Update.
Went over today to check on it.  He said he pulled the pump,  cleaned it out and replaced a bushing.
2 bolts holding the pan on were stripped out and those are getting helicoiled.  He'll order the TV cable and the electric lockout kit (toggle switch).
Will be ready Monday.
I have the th350 Lockar flexible trans dipstick I'll probably reuse.
Called Lokar and they said I keep it 3/16 below the full mark on the dipstick for the 200r4.

I have some column questions.

1.) What length are you running ?
30-32" seems common.

2.) How far from the dashboard is yours ?
I plan on a banjo type steering wheel.  The dish is what concerns me.

3.) Any brands of columns to avoid ?
I see ND columns on Amazon . Want to be budget friendly but avoid total junk.

4.) Do I need any reinforcement under the dash or floor area  ?

The plan is to swap the trans and do some test runs before this column swap which should coincide with the wood removal/steel installation.

I used a Iditit 32" mounted it as close to the dash as I could get, I used heavy wall sq, tubing welded between the A pillars behind the dash to mount my drop bracket to. On the floor I used a Iditit floor mount ti support that end. Sorry no pictures

I also used IDIDIT, they are a little more expensive but worth it and I think a better choice than an off brand. As far as length and fit, I think that is a more personal preference. I used a broomstick with a cardboard steering wheel to determine length and drop. Then I bought the closest column to that length. I also built a steel frame for the dash to bolt to and I bolted the steering wheel drop to that frame, and used an adjustable floor mount as well. I think this is a pretty common approach. A couple things: the drop I used was hinged so there is some room for adjustment, a chose a tilt column, I picked a column long enough to minimize the length of the steering shaft between the column and steering box.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Picked up the trans after work Friday.  He said he did the wiring harness so it's a one wire hookup (grounded internally) and got me a 1800 torque converter (lockup style)
Not sure how I wire it up ?
Something about a toggle switch and brake light switch.
