Today I picked up my bushings from the machinist. We ended up using delrin for the column and he made me a steel collar for the shaft itself, to up its size from 7/8" to 1". So a 1" u-joint will fit.
The column bushing is 7/8" ID and 1-3/8"OD.
Also made a template to make a steering box mount.

Well . Today I ran into a issue . When mocking up the steering box to the original hole in the frame .
Id have to notch out the top of the frame to make it work.  Dont want to do that. :o
If I lower the box down near the bottom of the frame it seems to tuck in better to get the shaft out the frame. This requires me to weld up the original hole and drill a new hole down lower. The bottom of the frame should be reinforced with the mounting plate I'll be welding in.
Give me your thoughts on this.

It sounds like lowering the box is the way to go, my only concern then would be the scrub line.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

I think im good there. The original pitman are is 7-1/2" and the new arm is 5.5". Lowering the box will give me back an inch. So it will be like I have a 6.5" arm.
Also figured Out how Im gonna modify the ride control rod. I'll cut it and reweld it to the other side, then make the rod longer.
Tonight I'll drill the hole in the frame and cringe while doing it.

Well. The reversed corvair box didn't work out and was sent back to get a Vega cross steer box.
Kinda bummed me out and haven't touched the car in months. Parts are sitting there waiting to be installed.

On another note :::
Im going to start switching all my pics to attachments since my photo hosting site is giving me fits.

Rattiac:::What i did was put the word out that i was looking for an external hard drive someone found one for me 1000 gigabytes for 20 bucks  sure its and IDE drive but who cares.I just plug it in to a USB port and power and BINGO my computer recognized it,so i put everything over on the external hard drive  it will probably hold a million pictures and no one uses these any more  no one except me    vette59jdwl   ps  save everything to my documents and then send to external drive when you do not want the external drive running just unplug it  simple  ah

Well here we all are at the same point. ::) While I type this I am deleting my entire iPhoto library. It became so large that it crashes iPhoto when I open it. I got some trail cameras to help keep track of trespassers. They have motion sensors and take great pictures of weeds when the wind blows. 8 pictures every 5 seconds in a storm. Each camera has a 3.5 gb card. In one download session I filled my remaining hard drive space. First I pulled weeds.  ;D Then I got an app called iPhoto Library Manager. With it I can set up several photo libraries. One will be for the trail cams. It can be dealt with separately so this won't happen again at this level. With the trail cams very few of the photos are keepers but I need to load them so I can sort them. I can reload my iPhoto library from my backup drive and will only loose a few pictures. Must of the good stuff is hosted on Picasa any way. I needed to clean up my photos anyway just not today.  It'll probably take a couple of days or nights. The trash is still working on over 120,000 items. :(

That was my first camera.  8) Well my plan didn't work and I lost the whole iPhoto library. At least the hosted pictures are still on Picasa and I have several discs from when I upgraded the OS. The backup using Time Machine needs the old files to rebuild not just replace. Maybe with what I have I can get it to work. I like working on cars better. You can usually see what's wrong. ;D

I bought one of these off eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SATA-PATA-IDE-to-USB-2-0-Adapter-Converter-Cable-for-2-5-3-5-Inch-Hard-Drive-B-/271988677499?hash=item3f53c9db7b:g:UYQAAOSwhcJWPGAs

I can take a crashed computer, remove the hard drive whether it's IDE or SATA and connect it to another PC externally to read and copy pictures etc  just like a thumb drive.

Can also use any hard drive for storage just like a thumb drive. Bought plastic hard drive storage cases for the hard drives out of my old PC's and have pictures stored on them.

If your PC crashes....pull the hard drive before tossing it - data and pictures may be easily recoverable. Works with both desktop and laptop computer hard drives.
