AM radio, we are dinosaurs. We made crystal radios as kids and it was magic. Kids today listen to music from all over the world and know none of the traditional songs if this country.

I think it's a good thing. AM can reach out information in those desolate areas that often don't get FM or Cell signals. I use mine all the time at night. It use to come in handy for weather or road conditions if you were out west and in the Mohave desert.

I remember when dad bought his first 64 Vette, it had AM/FM radio. I thought what is this FM? I told dad what ever it is..... it doesn't work. He informed me we had no FM stations any where near here 😁  We didn't get any FM stations here untill the mid/late70s, and they were Country music.  In high school we listened to some AM station out of the twin cities Minnesota, KOMA out of Oklahoma City and after dark... X-Rock 80 out of south of the boarder around El Paso Tx when they cranked up that bad boy😁

I only knew AM until the early 70's, and back then FM was deemed progressive music, B sides and non-mainstream.
Also, I had a friend who was an AM disc jockey, every time we drove under a bridge he stopped talking  ;D
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Before AM every place had local bands that played all the local events. Famous bands & singers traveled and were heard at concerts. The leap in technology in one life time is amazing. The loss in community & culture is amazing as well.  :)  :(

On hwy 89 going north from Kanab,  we couldn't get any FM channels but they had this one AM channel that was playing old 50'60's music and sometimes old country.  It was great. Listened to that channel through half the state going home.
The commercials were interesting.  Like local welders,  ranch-hands and of course the Dairy-keen.
We stopped in for shakes.

I had a friend in high school and his dad owned AM radio station and on the weekends my friend would DJ late at night. We would go by there to keep him company. He played more records than he did talking.
