I've cut holes in sheetmetal using plywoodtemplates, but the cutter head is hard to
get to move smootly. Using a thin slice of tubing welded to a piece of sheet metal works great.

In this case I used a slice of 2-¹/₂" exhaust tubing and welded it to
a piece of sheet metal to get it clamped it to the work piece.

Holes are cut fast, and come out decently shaped.

There you go. Nice hole cut using a simple tool.
The size of the cut hole is a bit smaller than the inner diameter of the tube. The scribe
around the hole is the same diameter as the inside of the tube.
A plasma is a great tool if you do some fabrication.

If you have access to a large assortment of pipes you could create a nice set of hole templates, what a great ideal

A few of those, and you could make neat lightening holes in defferent sizes fast.
