Well, new to me anyway. I was out pulling weeds and dragging with the tractor. On one round I spotted a big piece of glass and though "I'll have to pick that up later." The next round I realized it was a big piece of obsidian.  ? When I was done and walked over to get it I saw that it had been shaped. On examination I could see it had a double edged blade and hollowed places for thumb and finger rests/holds.  A pretty large chopping tool. Maybe for separating joints or cracking bones. One reason I love this place is that all the former users left little treasures for me to find. This little area is listed as a historic obsidian site but this is the largest piece I've ever found. Thank you Ancient man!

Thanks guys, it just made me feel good about being here. I told several friends today, some at my Inliner meeting. They were interested and wanted toes the pictures. I is cool to know more about where we live and who was here before us.

Chopper, a thousand years from now archeologist will be excited about Walmart parking lots. 
Knowing this makes me smile when I lose stuff.

Nice find Sixball! Hard to find intact pieces.  You never know what is in your back yard😁  People may spend a life time in one area and never know the history of the area, or know and just don't care.

Around here we have a pretty good assortment if one is interested in it. Near by lake you can find fossels of fish from the sea, (brother found a big shark tooth) in the canyon walls. North of there dinasour bones. Lot of Mammoth stuff around.
Trails from Spanish explorers, indian, military, stage, cattle. Lots of indian camp sites and burial grounds.
Outerspace, 😁 metiorite fields over east of us.

Sammons, so true. There is a lot out there. There is an Indian burial in the canyon above us up in the rocks. I leave it alone and taught my kids to also. I pick up the loose pieces I find and treat them as gifts but don't dig around looking, not for the Indian stuff. The Karma here is good and I don't want to mess with it. There is a lot of Chinese stuff here too. There was a wood cutter camp here in the mining days. Several stone foundations from the 1850s-1860s. They did some placer mining here too. I found a sea shell but I don't know how it got here. It may have been carried in. Some fossils and petrified wood as well. There is an old wild horse trap in the canyon that is probably from the '20s or '30s and used into the '50s. It was a pretty complicated set up but I sure quite effective. It is mostly Nevada barbed wire which is old mine cable partly untwisted and short pieces inserted for the barbs. There is probably at least a mile of it.
