Impact gun
« on: January 05, 2021, 01:32:02 AM »
I have this Matco 3/8 impact gun that stopped working the other day at work. We think the grease inside maybe hardened up.
I can turn the shaft with a wrench . Tried spraying wd40 in the oil hole and letting it soak.

Anyone ever tear down one of these / what to expect, springs, ect ???

I had one apart before.  Not too bad if you lay it out on a bench.  The one I did had the veins or fins stuck.  Cleaned everything,  oiled it and put it back together.  Ran fine again.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Had the same situation as Tom...just remember taking it apart, cleaning, then putting it together and it worked.

Make it a regular routine to oil my air tools now.

I oiled mine regularly and greased, that's why I was shocked when it stopped. Bought a new impact that day, so I'll use this one at home.

I tore it apart tonight hoping it needs just a cleaning.
Looked at the fins,  they were fine and clean.
Put it back together and ran fine for a minute then it jammed again.
2nd time I found this in front nose cone.
Can this bearing/bushing be replaced???

If it can be removed it can be replaced. I assume it's oil lite or brass material?  Do yo know the ID OD and width

" If someone can design and build tis surely to God I can fix it." my dad to a customer who questioned his ability to fix the chain drive on an ancient Oldsmobile truck.
The question is, is it worth it? Do searches and see if you can find an expanded view, specs, parts. If you have access to a lathe you can make a bushing. It could be a fun and satisfying project.
