Sixball, at least you'll be good for deer season. And, at least you've been to Speedweek. I'm afraid, as much as I would love the experience, I will never make it out there. It sounds like great fun, and camaraderie.

I highly recommend that every speed freak get there at least once. You can camp for free at "the bend" take a shower at the truck stop for a couple of bucks, and get by pretty cheap. The visual is astounding but the sound can not be captured on video or recording. The Doppler effect is so cool and just screams speed and power. We saw the Blowfish enter the 3rd mile at over 200 mph going backwards! You can walk through the pits and see the machines close up and visit with the crews, if they are not busy. Protection from the sun reflected off the salt is a must. You can get a sunburn inside your nose or up your shorts. :o Real men don't were shorts at Bonneville or they don't stay real men for long.  ::)

Whoops, I guess it was the (world of speed) I went to in 2008. At that time I drove my V6 swapped 1980 Chevette out there just to see if it would handle the long trip and it did .

When I pulled up by the racers line and parked everybody wanted to see under the hood.
One guy asked why aren't you racing ?
I said no cage. He did a tech inspection and said I have the high speed tires and the only thing I needed to enter was steel valve stems.

Had a great day checking out all the cars and speed runs. I left about 6pm and mostly everyone was gone.
So on the return to the road I cranked it up to 100+ mph just to see how the car would handle the salt.
It was surprisingly smooth, even moved the steering wheel left to right to see if id spin out easily or not and the car stuck nice and straight.
The speedometer broke during this run. 😄

Now I wish I could have raced it. Oh well, the car is long gone.

Im still going out probably Friday night. Hope to get a spot looking at the runs going by and maybe bust out my drone , but way away from people and such.

We used to set up our shade near the fuel area. There is a clean out house there and it is pretty near the pits. The long course was entering mile 3 and spreeds were 200 + for a lot of cars. You can hear the long pull from the starting line and they are still hard into it when they pass. Its also cool to go way out to mile 5-6 and hear some of the big stuff shutting down. It's all magic.
Have fun and post some pictures. Almost any engine can show up in almost any class so Loewy Stude coupes with Ford flatheads of MerCrusier 4 cylinders are no surprise.

Decided not to go. Pretty strong winds in the city which usually leads to stronger winds out on I-80.

It's really crazy this year but I need something to look forward to. Things should be a lot better in a couple of weeks and I can get back on the roadster.
