Speedweek
« on: July 30, 2020, 09:20:24 PM »
Looks like Speedweek is on at Bonneville.😎
http://www.scta-bni.org/

World of speed (put on by the local USFRA) is cancelled though.😕

Sounds like it was a battle of politics and saving the local economy. Most would move away if they didn't open soon.
I have been seeing a ton of U-haul's on the roads during my travels.

An exodus of liberals from the cities they destroyed to what is left of the country they have yet to destroy.
Yesterday there was an article on local news about the record home sales, record home prices, and record rental rates in the Reno/Tahoe area. Most sales are CASH and from California tech workers who are working from home. So why live in the mess they created? The high prices for homes and rentals are forcing locals out of the market. So local workers are are being forced to move farther out and commute longer distances. This has been going on in Nevada for several years but is much worse now. That is why we are a solid Democrat state now with riots in Reno and Vegas and no hope for the future.

Was wondering if you are going ?
If so, I may bring the trailer and plenty of shade.

I'd like to go. It's going to be busy. I've got family from Texas coming for Labor Day and lots of cleanup before that. A couple of health issues to sort out. I'll know more about that next. And there is the once every 5 year deer tags we drew with prep and scouting to do before the season opens.
You know my best friend and Bonneville body died out there last year and I wasn't there to help. If I can fit it in I'd like to be there. It is a magic place! Shade is good!

Chopper I signed the petition.  I drag raced my motorcycle there back in the early 80's when they held the nationals there in early October every year.  A bunch of us from New England Dragway used to go down there for the race.  I won Stock Eliminator there in 1981 on a Kawasaki GPZ 550.  I hate to see this track disappear especially since Englishtown is now gone.  I hope someone buys it and continues to run it as a dragstrip.

Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and am kind of expecting they are going to want to do a tune up on a heart valve I had replaced 20 years ago. I'll know by tomorrow night. I doubt if I'll be able to make it to Bonneville this time. If they do it I'd like to be up and running for deer season.  ;D

That's great.  :)
The numbers that go with age are astounding. It is amazing that our bodies do what they do, for as long as they do and at least in my case under years of abuse and neglect.
Our hearts pump about 2,000 gallons of blood a day and 100,000 beats a day. At 75 years Mine has pumped about 54,750,000 gallons of blood so far and about 2,737,500,000 beats.  I have also slept for 25 years.  ;D

The report from (seldom seen slim) on landracing.com is ;;;;;;
The salt from lands end to the pits is hard and dry with it getting more damp closer to the pits.

This is good. Last time I was there in 2008, it was 3" of water at land's end. My sidepipes were gurgling in the water.

Here's a link to the action.
As of 5 mins ago the pits are reported as dry.😊

Hopefully the live broadcast will soon. I always listen to it at work.

I saw the doctor today. I'm not going to make Speed Week. But I should be good for deer season.

2008 was my first time there. The first thing I remember reading that wasn't about Dick & Jane along with Tip & Spot was an article in a small magazine about Bonneville. When you leave the pavement at Lands End for the first time it is a religious experience. I couldn't believe the guys with really nice cars running through the brine covering their cars with salt. I tried to stay out of the wet stuff and I am still finding salt. Nasty stuff.
