Leaky Valve Cover Gaskets
« on: May 20, 2020, 05:08:58 PM »
I've used cork valve cover gaskets on my small block Chevy.  After a while they seem to leak.  What do you guys use to seal your valve cover gaskets?
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

I use the rubber ones, I also glue them to the valve cover using weather strip adhesive to help seal that side

I'm with 62131, I do the exact same thing. I think the cork hardens and shrinks more quickly.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

The 100% cork would shrink with age.  Did you know the CORK is actually the bark on a tree.  They cut it off and harvest it.  Turns out only grows in Portugal.

In a episode of "CURSE OF OAK ISLAND" on discovery channel they found some bits of itin the swamp area and had it examined. Oak island is off eastern nova scotia supposed home to buried treasure 200 ft down.

Anyway........most the cork I have dealt with ,  was a mixture of cork and rubber.  Pretty well all the new gaskets are made that way.  You can smell the rubber when you open the package.  Shrinkage on the new stuff should not be a problem. ???
