Utah earthquake
« on: March 18, 2020, 09:22:50 AM »
Just had an earthquake about 10 minutes ago.
Shook the house really good. I've never experienced one like this. Could feel the house moving side to side.
News said it was a 5.7  :o

Hope everybody in your neck of the woods is ok.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Fairly serious for the area. Nevada is always shaking but mostly small.

While getting ready for work, about 20 mins after the initial quake we got a loud bang shook everything (like someone dropped our house a few inches) then the rumble came.
Our house creeked after the bang. Scary.
25 aftershocks this morning.

Walked around the house before leaving.
No damage that I could see. I'll look again once I get home.
My heart-rate has been up all morning.
Kinda exhausted. Eating lunch right now. Things are calming down here but Costco has been hit with a flood of people again.

The angle moroni on the temple lost his arm and trumpet. Freaking some people out.

There are reports of this being felt clear down to southern Utah , Colorado and Vegas.

Well, back to the truck im working on.

Earthquakes give you an odd, feeling like some one is shaking your house...and you move with it...scary feeling...and always looking up to see if something is going to fall on you like  the  ceiling or roof structure....glad everything was ok and you are ok...

Glad you're safe.  Hope everything is OK with your home!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

I left work a few minutes early and got a call, the furnace wasn't working. Once I got to it, we found out the water heater wasn't working as well.
I think the gas company had shut down a complete grid.
Re-lit the pilot lights , made dinner and watched a movie together.
I'll do a more thorough inspection tomorrow. Setting up a game plan just incase it shakes tonight.
If we have to. Im getting camping gear ready to move out to the trailer. Can probably stay at families as well.

Glad to hear you made it thru ok. Seen on the news Kennecott had an acid spill after the quake. Sounds like you have a plan anyway, stay safe.

Hope you have a less stressful day tomorrow. Glad you are safe and got things working. We are getting the snow you like to play in.  As of last night Homewood at Tahoe reported 7.6 feet in the last 4 days . There's more coming. Of course the ski areas are closed due to the Chinese virus. We had 4.5 inches yesterday and a couple more inches tonight. Better than the house shaking.

Well Rattiac, They must be moving west. We just got a pretty good shock here. Not like yours. Probably just stresses evening out. A little after 6:30.

It was a 5.0 near Carson City (Indian Hills).

Thanks guys for the well wishes 👍.

That's crazy about the quakes. Hope no damage near your end.
I think I'd rather deal with a quake than this corona crap. Everything is shutting down here. Wife is working from home. Im still working. Thankfully.
My boss said if the city told him to shut down he'd tell them to get #!@&$=.

Rumor mill says it's all made up to hunt terrorists.
Hmm.

On the bright side. I got to work on the trailer tonight. At least that feels normal. 😉
Stay safe guy's.

The down graded the Carson quake to 4.5, a lot less than yours. The center was about a mile from a friends place. No one hurt and little f any damage.

I hate all the rumors and misinformation about the virus. There are criminals using it to get into peoples' houses and robbing them. I'm surprised they haven turned all the prisoners loose so they can have the proper social distancing.  The quake was very near Nevada State Prison.
