EDNY,  my buddy found enough info on your site for a bid. I don't know if he joined up,(forgot to ask).   He had a short time to act, put in a bid and won it on the 16th. Headed to KC Mo. to pick it up today.

Has 128k miles, 454/L480E. Got it for $1350. He called for pick up time and the shop manager said they had it just over a year, spent $6 grand on it, including a trans rebuild, new Bridgestone tires all the way around. Then it got stolen and when returned, reverse slipped and they put it up for auction.

The axles should work out great under his '58 Viking wheat truck. I think he has a fellow interested in the 454 already.

That Dana 80 rear axle is either 4.63 or 5.13 gear ratio.  Tell him to salvage the lower front grill spacer and exterior door handles..unique to the 3500HD.  The 4L80E will have the rear parking brake drum mounted on the tail shaft..since the truck has 4 wheel disc brakes.

The books say the Dana 80 holds 4.2 quarts...just changed  the fluid in mine last week...put in 5 quarts and it just started to flow out of the fill plug. It's safe to say the 454 will have four bolts main caps.

Thanks Ed, passed that on to him this morn.  She's a real peach, appears to be road hard and put up wet. "Tranny slipps in reverse", yeah ..like 4 grand rpm to get it to budge.   

I worked on one of those for the Gas company 20yrs ago.(frt fender damage). Guess I never looked under it, Dang that frame is BIG!  Is it 3/8" thick or more?  This one has an even larger center frame rail outter cap bolted on. Is that the way they all are, or a later "beef" up option?

This 3500HD originally started with one of those utility boxes, 6.2 turbo, NV4500 5sp.  Installed a 2500 cab, 350 TPI engine and made it a flatbed dump. Serious trucks with 19.5 (ten bolt) wheels, I-beam front axle, 15000 GVW.  It's my toy.
