just finishing up the 68 camaro , finally got plates and doing a pre test drive safety check.... I have ran the motor a hand ful of times to check for leaks, tuning ect ect ….    The clear inline fuel filter feels SOFT and the nipple is bending aside from the rubber fuel lines that are connected from the fuel pump to the carb ...  makes me not want to test drive the car.   Has anyone got any solutions ?? This really doesn't seem safe .   Id rather not even run a filter if its going to break and burn my car down …. I see some guys are getting high end aluminum filters or metal filters??  yes clear is good to see fuel flow but not at the expense of a disaster … what cheap junk !!!     Man... the anxiety you get before test driving a long term project !!!!!!  I got a lot of hours and $$ into this thing so I really don't want to screw it up now .  safety first , fun comes after .

I don't know what to tell you, I don't trust the plastic ones either. Had a glass one with a replaceable filter cartrige break when a rock hit it from fresh graveled street. Lucky i was in town and smelled it! I just run the tried and true Wix metal one. It ain't pretty, but works without worry.

I agree Sammons …. just went to napa and got a metal one for 6.99 ….  part number is 3033 if anyone else wants to ditch the crappy plastic filter … its only a matter of time and disaster could strike  .

Good choice.  Wouldn't want to see a fire!
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

On my 34 the previous owner had a glass one near the carb..after a season or two the gasket must have dried up and it started leaking..so I temporarily bi-passed it. Looking under the car I noticed another full size inline filter coming out of the tank...problem solved.

If you only want a test drive...maybe just bi-pass temporarily?

I've run dozens of the plastic ones with no problem, but it only takes one. I've had more problems with the new gas and the crappy new fuel line.

I had that issue with my last filter.
The parts store let me go through all thier filters till I found one that was bigger and stronger.
I know there is some debris in my tank, so I've been running two. Changing em every spring.

On my 33 with TPI (not on the road) I have a coarse pre-filter before electric pump and a GM OEM metal filter after the pump.

I run a glass/metal with replaceable filter, like Sammons. I never had a problem and it lets you see what's running through your lines. If you have any doubts, run a steel filter for peace of mind.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn
