The teardrops days may be numbered.
« on: August 28, 2019, 09:32:35 PM »
I didn't think I would ever say this. The teardrop may be going bye, bye.  :o
I hate to say that but.... our trips have been getting longer and a bit heavier. Evolving over time from a tent and close camping to going north to Yellowstone for a week or more.

Trying to camp smarter ,  not harder.
There's some things we cant put in the TD like
Coolers, water containers since the bouncyness would kill drinks and we usually put that in the jeep and then swap stuff when we get to camp.
Also weight in the jeep is becoming a problem even after I got rid of stuff we didn't need.
Not to mention a RV park that was flooded/raining , getting in and out was a pain.

So after seeing a cargo conversion trailer. Idea's started brewing.
If I did a 5x10 cargo conversion we could have a bit more room , could stand up and if we got rained out we could make dinner inside.

Already started looking into cargoes near me and researching.
Pic #1.) Drew plans out on the floor.
# 2.) Checked out a 5x10 near my work. Sexy.
# 3.) They let me Test tow a 5x8 just to see how it tows. Surprising at how smooth it was and light.
The V-nose I've been told really helps areo.
But first things first. The for sale sign.   :-\

Would you put windows in it?
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Wouldn't a small vintage travel trailer be easier? They are sitting all over the place.

Rattiac, sometimes you just outgrow them. Your needs change as your adventures do. ;)

When I welded those 2 Postal Jeeps together back in the early 90s, it was for pulling behind my '47 Willys Jeep (river, rough access lake areas. Worked great for that, but I parked it in '02 to build my house and it sat till '05 when I gutted it for a new interior due to all the door rubbers falling apart and water blew in. >:( I got side tracked with other projects and sold it to a friend, he used it for swapmeet parts hauling a couple years and it has sat out at his farm drawing rust. I was looking at buying a used Fleetwood Evolution 1 offroad pop up camper, but sold my Jeep.

Named the "M.D.R.U." (Mobile Drunk Recovrey Unit), it had a Queen size bed, killer sound sys, CB radio, 2 outside access open down doors for hard mounted 2-burner Coleman campstove/storage, 15'x10' awning etc.
Pic of it rusting away on farm.
