I know what you mean.  I just did the rear brakes on my daughter's late model SUV and had to rent a special tool to compress the piston into the caliper to get the new pads to fit.  What should have taken 45 minutes took two hours  >:(
I prefer working on vintage stuff!

I figured out that problem...I  take about 12" steel file and with a C Clamp compress the file against the caliper puck...as I compress the clamp I rotate the file so the puck can screw back into the caliper.  Of course I also have a caliper cube if someone isn't borrowing it :D

Ed I have that cube but couldn't compress and rotate it at the same time.  This is the tool I rented (no charge just have to leave a deposit).  Worked great so I looked on Amazon and bought it.  Worth it ($24) if I ever have to do it again.
Spending time with my grandkids gets in the way of finishing my car but I don't regret it!

Tom...10-4 on that...the file method works pretty good, the file grips the puck (inside) and the C clamp's swivel base (outside)....then tighten the C clamp while rotating the file clockwise so the puck threads back in.  Back-up plan if you don't have the proper tools. Just used that method about 2 weeks ago after my neighbor thought the caliper pucks were stuck on his Ford Focus rear brakes.  Appears that they all turn in clockwise?

Yes the rear brakes I did were on my daughter's 2013 Ford Escape.

O'Reilly, and others I'm sure, have a huge selection speciality tools that they loan. Actually I think you buy them and they give a refund when you return it. There were liability issues with loans and rentals. It's nice to have those tools at home but if it is something you don't need often or God forbid broken down far from home it's handy.

Today I went up to the B and did a ton of Recovery.
Pulled out jeeps, Toyota's and Subaru's.
Even was hired by some "paragliders" to run them back up the canyon after their jumps.  Kind of an Uber service.
Was a good day helping people get unstuck.
On the way home the jeep hit 200,000 miles .
Once I got home,  then I realized how sore I was.

Rattiac, you're too young to be sore. 200,000 miles? Your truck should be sore! :D

Rattiac, Where were you when I need you?  ;D  Thursday we had to go out with about 1 1/2 of wet snow. We didn't make the last 1/4 mile home. Besides the snow and steep climb the "new" pickup over heated and cracked the radiator or cracked the radiator and over heated.  ::)  I walked home, got the tractor, moved some snow, limped the truck home, and rescued my wife. On Friday and Saturday I mostly moved snow and pretty much got the troublesome 1/4 mile passable. The other 1 3/4 miles isn't so bad. Yesterday I found the leak, I think. Tomorrow I'm going to try and patch the radiator good enough to get to a shop or at least in range of a tow truck. There is another storm on the way. I'm looking for a winter tire & wheel set for my wife's Jeep. I want to work on my roadster! :(  ;D

If you don't do alot of highway driving,  you can lower your tire pressure about 5 - 10 psi.  That will help with traction a bit.
I usually run mine at 30psi in the city during the winter.
Now when im snow wheeling I go down to 10psi.  Helps with floatation and traction big time.
This is why I kept with a 7 inch width wheel,  so I don't pop a bead.

Hmm weird my pics are turned sideways.

I've been driving this particular stretch for 49 winters now. I actually built this piece of road and put it in the wrong spot. Twice we have been snowed in for two weeks. There have been times when 4x4s with all 4 chained could not make it home. It's not often but when the snow conditions are just right it's tough. I have had multiple chained 4x4s stuck along the road.(3) I burned the steering clutches out on my dozer pushing snow several years ago. That time it was up to the windows on the Cherokee. It does discourage the flatlanders, no one just drops by because they were in the neighborhood.  ;D

I'm headed out in a while to try to patch the radiator on the pickup good enough to get it out of here. I got this 2006 Silverado a few weeks ago and have replaced one front hub, the shift cable, console top & latch, tailgate hardware, a back door latch, and now the radiator. Looks like you can't give old dogs used trucks!  ::)

Rattiac my Youtube app keep me watching your videos😁  Didn't have the brain power to start an account to reply, but give the 'ol thumbs up!

That is probably about what we have had but only about 18" at once except where it drifted. It is good heavy wet stuff that we really need.
I drove into Reno this afternoon and saved $70 on paths. I decided to replace the radiator myself rather than deal getting it to a shop 25 miles away and pay a lot more. I did a very nice patch earlier today but missed the hole.  :( I watched a couple of videos and it is easier than my older trucks, but it looks like we may get a little more snow tonight.

We got about 6-8" over the last two days, you would think we got 2'! I will say, however, now that I am retired the furthest I have gone is out to my driveway to do a little shoveling. I could really get used to this retirement stuff. ;)
