Sixball;;;
Looking into the coyote hunting, it said must bring a jaw or head with the mouth open so they can pull a tooth for genetics testing to see which county it came from. Hunt is from December to June.
Well, still a long ways from that cause we need to break in our guns properly using high velocity shells of at least (1300fps).
Our last shots were 1180 and wasn't cycling the semi auto very well. Could get off 2 shots before it jammed up.
I grabbed 2 boxes of the 1300's and one of 1475.
Gonna grab me a slip on recoil pad this weekend before break in starts.

Hunting coyotes with a shotgun would be a tough job. You'll need something bigger than bird shot, way up into the buckshot range or slugs and then you'll have a hard time getting close enough. The guys I know that hunt them here call them into range and shoot some flat shooting long range scoped rifles. Coyotes are smart and learn fast when being hunted. Around here they seem to have learned that they are safer in and around the housing developments where there are abundant pets and they can not be shot.

 The coyotes up here are big as dogs..here's a pic of one I shot behind the barn deer hunting. ..that's a .308 rifle.

We have tons of them on my property...we live about 800 yards from Canada..it is suspected that the coyotes bred with the Algonquin wolf resulting in larger coyotes?

Best rifle for coyotes is the AR-15!

That's a big one. I remember years ago reading an article about coyotes breading with feral dogs the results were bigger, more cunning and less fear of humans. I am often surprised when checking the cameras I set out at how near some big predators come to the house. I also know I miss more than I get pictures of.  :o

Happy hunting! No coyotes around these parts, but I boarder the 'burbs and local parks, there are a ton of deer on my front lawn and a occasional fox.

I was not a fan of small caliber rifles, nothing smaller than .30 until I traded for a custom #1 Ruger single shot in .219 Donaldson Wasp. It is a wildcat that I have form cases for from the 25-35 30-30 family. They are necked down, shoulder moved back and shortened. It can shoot the same bullets as a .223 about 200 fps faster. Its a lot of trouble but it fills the same niche as hot rods.  :o It is fun to load for and shoot, very accurate and almost no recoil. Devastating on small game as faraway as I can see it. It would be good for coyotes, Or bad depending on your view.  ;D

Maybe we need a category for outdoor sports i.e. hunting, fishing, shooting?

BTW:  I have to do my annual handgun qualification today as a retired law enforcement officer.

Ed, I just requalified on Tuesday, as a still active cop. Shot my worst ever, qualified with a 97. It is, however, my last qualification, I retire January 2nd, with 39 1/2 years of service......I can't wait!

Thanks for your service and looking out for the rest of us. I've only had to qualify for my CCW permit and renewals. Those are too easy but I don't want anyone more involved in it.
