went to the alternator rebuilder to pick up my overhauled for 2nd time alt.   Well one thing I had done was to take the alt to rebuilder, have him take it apart to overhaul while I take the case and all the bracketry to the powder coating of signal red.

While I was tuning the new 383 last week I get a low growling and its getting louder and louder. Use hose to ear and its the alternator with less than 500 miles on it.

So off to alt repair guy and its a rough spin.  Tell him how I found there was a single wire attached to the back of alt and running to the block.  Well ladies and gents heres what happened.

The alt bearings front and rear are completely smoked . Apparently the bracketry usually grounds the alternator, but heavy coats of powder are blocking it.  So sanding of mounting stud for wire in rear is filed smooth and couple other also. So stud area is filed, going to use a STAR washer with dielectric grease , check block for ground attachment. Increase wire size to a #10.

Never a problem I have ever run into before, now have to take the one off motor with webers because its also done in black.

It's now adjustable from 6x8 to 6x6.
Cant wait to use while fishing/camping.

Top of the week. Low miles 65 mustang (47k). Had original top and surprisingly the hardware was in great shape.
Last week was a Porsche 911. No pic, I hated that car and most German engineering.

Great job on the top.  Wish you were around here, I'd have you do the top on my 33.

Likewise, Tom. I wish you were around here Rattiac. The top on my '67 Mustang was done back in 1980! It's not worn too bad, but it's white and is ready for replacement. Problem is finding someone to trust.
