bought some ebay fuel injectors .... thoughts?
« on: April 02, 2019, 04:25:46 PM »
anyone ever bought injectors off ebay? got a set of 8 for 50 bucks … really cheap .   Got them today, they actually have bosch part numbers on them but the box says china??

I have a high hp Pontiac grand prix turbo retuned with 36lb injectors , they were used but professionally cleaned before installed with the tune , the car ran amazing but now years later is making white fuely  smoke and the car is running pig rich 10:1 !!!!
fuel regulator was tested and seems to work fine, im leaning towards a mechanical malfunction within the injector (s).
as if one of them is sticking open ,  being Multiport rather than series injection , that doesnt help much either!

So i bought these new injectors but im kind of weary installing them with the china logo on the box ???  i was reading the china injectors dont have the bosch numbers on them but these ones do ...  i really dont know what to think about them .
The only thing keeping me from driving the car is this white smoke so i really need to get it figured out ,, its not oil smoke or coolant.

Have you tried a laser temperature gauge on the exhaust header to determine if all eight are approx at the same temp?

no i don't have one of those, should grab one as they are great tools for tuning.  I have custom log manifolds anyway , im actually cracking the upper intake off right now .  going to get a quick ohm count on them first

so i have 11.5-11.6 across the board, going to try to watch the spray pattern now... another dam gremlin

EDIT    FIXED ....got off easy this time ,  just tossed them in and no more smoke.  will see how they hold up under boost .

Sounds like an easy fix. You bought them, might as well try them ;D
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

From what I've read about injectors they seldom fail but they do get clogged and gummed up.  Sending them out for cleaning/flow check gets expensive (over $20 EACH).  There are several DIY videos on how to clean them at home.  Good advice to use a heat gun on the headers which may give you lots more info.  Have you checked the O2 sensors?

Yea the last  set was sent out but they were abused for about 5 years over all … hard boost takes a toll.

The car is perfect now all fixed ,  air fuel ratio at idle went from 10:1  back up to normal approx. 13:1  maybe a little higher than that.

I use STP or another brand of FUEL INJECTION CLEANER right in the tank every 4 tanks.  They used to have tv commercials by STP showing a fine mist spray instead of semi clogged stream.

Convinced me.  Never had an injector taken out to have serviced .  And I keep my cars until the end.

yes I agree with cleaning them but in my case one had a mechanical malfunction , over fueling … the opposite of being clogged.  You can ohm them and keep em clean as you want , if they mechanically fail … it will need rebuild or replace.
