Lol, hell that's the way I cut mine down for good drive shaft :)  They forgot to mention to scribe a line to keep driveshaft yokes in correct time. Also scribe a line on any factory weights to put back on if you have to cut that end off.  Never had one vibrate when done, just lucky I guess! ;)

Ooh that is cool. ;D Thanks.

Speaking of which,, I have a slight vibration I cannot get rid of at about 68-70mph.
So for awhile I've just stuck to 63-65.

I've made sure front and rear pinion angles are good with small improvements. (Adjustable upper control arms & shims). Even had em balanced .
Might take a to a driveshaft shop one of these days.

Rattiac, not sure if your Jeep has the rear drive middle slip yoke, but worth a look.

When I got my '46 CJ up and running, I replaced the clanking U-joints. Then a couple months they were clanking again. Thought cheap replacement and got better ones. Couple months... again. My buddy Tom came in as i was pulling shaft and said "didn't you just replace those" I said yep, twice. All grooved up again. He noticed the yokes didn't quit line up. I never pulled slip yoke apart, but apparently somebody had. It was off one spline. Reset splines, never had a problem after that. Now.....an old jeep not capable of much over 50mph and mostly dirt roads, I wouldn't have noticed a vibration anyway. ;D

Speaking of driveshafts, can anyone recommend a company to make me a new one. The one I have in my coupe right now is an inch or two, too short.
Tighten it up til it strips, then back it off a quarter turn

Can't you get a longer front yoke??   Cheaper than building one ..due to buying new yokes  anyways......

The front yoke is pretty long, but the longer the yoke just means the "U" joint is further away from the tail shaft, and I think that causes the ability for more wobble in the "U" joint, and the shaft, overall......at least that's what I am thinking.

Speedway has front yokes from 5.5" to 8" long. ..guess your concern of the long yoke putting more pressure and wobble would be a question for driveline shops... :-\ :-\

Yes, exactly. For example: I don't want the U joint to be 8" from the end of the tail shaft if the optimum distance is 4". The rpm's of the drive shaft and the force on the U joint I imagine could be pretty substantial and increase as the U joint is moved further away from the end of the tail shaft. I think the best, safest solution is a new driveshaft.
